Whatever happens on election day - Thank you DU for making the last 7.5years tolerable
I don't know how I would have survived 8 years with that asshole in the White House but it was so wonderful to have a site like Democratic Underground as a safe haven. Thru all the good times & bad, you have been that light at the end of the tunnel that; although sometimes hard to see, today it's so bright it's amazingly wonderful.

I really truly feel that deep in my heart, that we will be very successful on election day. But no matter the outcome - I look forward to spending another 8 years here either fighting to make more change or even fighting when a democrat does bad (and they will - nothing is perfect).

Thank you DU and thanks to all of you who have made these last 8 years the best in such dark times.

9. Oh Hell yes.
This site has changed me from a complacent stay-at-home dem to a boots on the ground door knocking, checkwriting, phone banking professional hard core dem activist. It has been the most rewarding experience of my life. Obama is the cake. If the two local candidates I've been working for win it will be the icing! I offer a thank you to all who make up this great community!

12. Yes - God bless DU
I came to this site through a link on Bartcop, back in 2002. DU has saved my sanity on more than one occasion. I've learned so much about my country and the world that I wouldn't have known through the usual channels (MSM).

Thank you, DU, for being an invaluable voice for Liberals and Progressives. :yourock:

14. No kidding. It's been my lifeline during some VERY dark and dreadful years, politically speaking.
I don't know how I would have survived, with my sanity intact, without you guys. For a long time there, it felt SO isolating to be a Democrat. We were treated as the scum of the earth. Many still regard us that way. I can understand a little more of how the early Christians must have felt.

You guys have been my solace and to say I'm grateful is to utter the understatement of the year.

If, God willing, we win, we will INDEED still have a fight on our hands - having Barack's back and strengthening our Dems so they actually start showing some backbone and sticking up for him and for the principles we all believe in as patriotic Americans and progressives and liberals.

Hugs to you all! I'm doing my last "Election Special" radio show on KPFK this afternoon (2pm pacific time, www.kpfk.org, 90.7 FM in Los Angeles) - maybe you can listen in online or something.

22. A-men - remember being a ten-percenter?
If it weren't for Bartcop (first and then later to DU (thanks to JulieRB for dragging my ass over here where there's more going on), I'd be lost.

I'm sure everyone remembers the "10%" feeling, when we were among the 10% who DIDN'T think Bush was the greatest thing since sliced bread right after 9/11, and when you were looked at by your friends and neighbors as "unpatriotic" for not supporting the attack on Iraq. When there WAS no Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow, those faint glimmers of hope on the horizon - only Faux News blasting out of EVERY public TV in every airport, hotel, gym and bar.

Now we're in the majority, and I'm just glad DU was there for us in the darker days.

27. Same here!
I found DU in 2001 in the wake of the disastrous election fiasco. I was deeply upset by the stolen election and the prospects of a Bush/Cheney administration.

Since finding DU, I have come here almost daily to read and learn, occasionally posting... but mostly just being comforted by the presence, virtual as it is, of other Democrats.

I seriously think that November 5th will be the beginning of a new era for DU.

28. Absolutely. My thanks to ALL of DU...
...for support during the last several, difficult years. The intelligent discussion...even when I disagreed...was invaluable to my understanding the issues, and to my coping throughout the trying times.

I, too, believe we will be successful on election day. And...if we are...I also believe the strength it took to win this fight began here. Please remember that this community needs to support our new president. There is much we still must fight to accomplish. The country has been greatly damaged by the administration of the last eight years. Thanks to all of you, I am confident we can make it right.

Yes. We. Can.:patriot:

38. It was a grey dark day in Florida, in Nov. 2000... Literally a large group of vultures
circled my home which was directly next to the local precinct. It seemed like the world had shifted to an alternate universe and I was stuck in the nightmare.

DU came along that January and from the very beginning began to make sense of things. I heard the site was opening on inauguration though Salon.com. I lurked for a couple of months just reading and then joined that spring.

So many people have come and gone. I can remember after 9/11 being one of the 10%ers, then protesting the Iraq war, my quixotic run for the legislature in 2002, the disappointment of 2004, and so much more.

Since, I have become an economic refugee achieving great success away from home. Personally, I am doing great! I was even elected to Executive Committee for what with be the newest Democrats Abroad country, the UAE.

DU is still my lifeline to the home country... always where I go to make sense of what is going on in the world.

Literally, I love you guys and girls... well most of you anyway! O8)

I've seen many things happen here. Lots of grief and turmoil - but through it all it has been a great place to come and share with those who hold progressive views. Folks we've been underground for many years now - looks like our time has finally come. I look forward to the jubilation that will take place here after McCain concedes the election. I will continue to be a member of the underground even after the victory we have been long waiting for.
