Obama is a Socialist

Obama wants government to continue doing socialist things. Things like keeping roads open and free, schools for everyone, fire and police departments under citizens' control, and funding the defense of all of us!

Anyone who disagrees must be a facist!

25. I don't believe it to be the truth, so no it doesn't hurt me.
We can debate the degree to which the US is socialist all day and not get anywhere. I have been arguing with repubs & indies in defense of socialistic policies which are required of any government until I'm blue in the face. However, it is not in our best interest or helpful to the Obama campaign to state "Obama is a Socialist".

29. Shoot
The campaign is over. What we've got to do now is get socialism perfected. We do that by admitting we are to a large degree socialistic and Obama is gonna make things better.

32. I understand
And that's fine. You may actually make a difference in how a few people vote. For me, as long as it's not stolen (it won't be) its over and now is the time to get moving toward the establishment of the best America can be. And the best of America in the past has a socialist lean. So we build on the best or we burn it down. Let us build, eh?

11. Nothing except that it's not going to help you win votes in this election
and elections really are about winning votes and not seeing how much of the electorate you can alienate. In the real world of American politics the vast majority of the voters do not like the connotation of socialist or socialism.

16. Yeah. This election, right now. Embracing socialism is not going to win any votes.
Obama, in this election, will never embrace the mantle of socialism. It won't happen.

17. Duh
So that's why we, the people, need to embrace it. Don't be afraid to admit we as a country are socialist to a large degree. In fact admit that some of the best things this country does for the people are very socialist at its core. Obama will come around.

7. I love the power they ascribe to him,
like he can singlehandedly destroy all they hold near and dear. I wish it were like that! However, their constant trumpeting of what dire things Obama can bring about only serves to make him look powerful and effective in the eyes of the general public. People (obviously) don't know what socialism is anymore; the talk will just make him seem like the agent of massive change that we have been awaiting for so long.

9. They are fascists, that is "f_a_s_c_i_s_t", but Obama is not a socialist
...he is a democrat following what democrats did under FDR and his New Deal to save America from becoming fascist.

It was Keynesian Economics, it saved America and made this country strong and wealthy and far more democratic than any other country in that period and continued to function that way through to 1968 when Richard Nixon took the presidency and began the slow unraveling of everything FDR had accomplished for the average citizen under the New Deal.

Now we find ourselves once more at the threshold of fascism and corporatism with $700 billion bailouts and nationalization of the banks and key industries, etc.

Obama can put us in the right direction.

18. Is McCain inadvertantly popularizing socialism?
All this talk from evil right-wingers about the evils of socialism must surely be increasing people's interest in it as an ideology. It will be interesting to see the effects in academic and activist circles.

23. "From each according to ability, to each according to work."
That the socialist principle for income distribution, straight from Marx and Engels. Isn't that what the Republicans PRETEND to support: the idea that harder, more productive work will be rewarded with greater income? I guess it's how you define "value." What is the social value of the labor product of a Wall Street investment banker? Is it 80 times the value of an auto production worker? How about a holder of hereditary wealth who invests the money? More than that of a McDonald's shift worker? The right will say that the market is the perfect indicator of "value," but they support $700 bailouts in contradiction to the market, and support all sorts of market interventions...

Well, I guess they blew that all to hell. Now they say "Government is the solution, stick 'em up." Bastids.

37. Kick, 'cuz
We need to come to terms with what socialism means. I compare it to capitalism which I consider to be, "every wo/man for itself" and socialism as what's good for the most of us.

Roads are good for the most and government operates them pretty well... better than a private firm(s) ever could.
