Obama is going to take Georgia
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 10:30 AM by grantcart
Early voting in Georgia has been extremely heavy with twice as many people voting so far in Georgia than voted in the 2004 early voting.

Early Voting 1.4 million to date compared to 3.3 million total votes in 2004.

There is very strong AA voting so far in GA with about 500,000 AA voters already voting.

AA population is estimated at 30% but currently they count for 35% of the early voting

White 60.6%
Black 35.2%
Other/Unk 2.4%

Absentee 12.9%
In-person 87.1%

If you add in the hispanic population and project the same percentage of voting that Hispanics and AA voters are voting for Senator Obama is getting nationwide, and if the voting participation percents remain the same through Nov 4th,

This means that Senator Obama only will need 25% of the white vote in Georgia to take the state. Senator McCain's catering numbers show that his support their is soft and that a lack of enthusiasm will also be a problem for him in getting the vote out.

It looks very very good -- Senator Obama is going to take Georgia

2. I will freak the hell out.
I am not predicting he will take Texas, but I think his numbers here will be better than people think. And definitely better than Kerry got in 2004. By a lot.

(Just mentioning that because that's where I am!)

3. I think so too
Georgia is one of the states that reports results early in evening on election night, if Obama wins it, then we'll know early on that we are headed for a very good night.

8. One of those DRE plagued states, with uncertain electronic results.
I'll take the momentum, and the fact that winning with this kind of strength makes governing easier.

20. What are you talking about... lol
Between the delinquents, winos, sluggards, medieval hagglers, jugglers, gobetweens, has-beens, been-sellers, bean counters, know-nothings, know-everythings, half-wits, no-wits, those at their wits ends, there really isn't any space for comedians...

Wait a minute I also forgot the pedophiles, communists, socialists, anarchists, terrorists, pacifists... and other labels for Obama supporters...

;)
Cheers
BK

14. Also, Barr is on the ballot while Nader is NOT.
I can see many disappointed Republicans voting for Barr when they get in the booth.

19. If Obama wins Georgia, he's definitely got a mandate.
I'm more optimistic about Florida and Ohio, but Georgia is a state he doesn't need, so if he wins, it's big.

And I am optimistic about 364 other EV, so I am certainly not the most concerned person out there.

23. Georgia? Really?
I lived in Atlanta, Georgia briefly in the mid 70's. Outside of Atlanta and Savannah,

Georgia was a very scary place. I am praying for an Obama win but

Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia going for Obama? I believe

Obama will win by taking Penn, Colorado and all the mountain states

except Wyoming and Idaho.

24. finally!
Do you know how many posts were posted here insisting GA was out of reach? As someone who volunteered during the voter registration phase for several months, working every day and weekend, I think it's a possibility. The thing many people don't understand about GA is how disenfranchised many of the African Americans have been -- for a variety of reasons. The Obama camp recognized the needs of this group and has organized a brilliant GOTV strategy, as well as registering folks in places convenient for them and making sure they knew what they needed to bring to the polls, checking their registrations to make sure they were filled out properly, etc.

We had the vote switching device here, so it would be presumptive to make any assumptions based on the voter registration drives. However, with 400,000 newly registered voters, the chance that many people will have their votes counted is good.

I'll be holding my breath for GA and if she goes blue, I know I will cry. But even if she's just purple, that is a huge accomplishment. HUGE.

Kudos to all of the volunteers and staffers who worked their hearts out in GA -- I know people who gave up their day job to volunteer for months here. They all deserve recognition for their service to our country!

GO GEORGIA!!! GOBAMA!!!
