I am a bit scared that California will go RED ...
... if too many Democrats will think the election is already decided in other States and stay home.

With 52 extra EVs ... McCain might still win some how ???

BTW, Republicans are always talking about "Tax and Spent Democrats" ... why is nobody talking about "Credit Card Republicans" ???

CA may not even be needed, but Democrats are FAR MORE energized than republicans ...

The GOP voters are dispirited, and will just as likely NOT vote after it's called as anyone else ...

Dislcaimer, I do not live in CA, and only spent 5 days in San Fran for a convention but didn't meet to many natives, so I do not know the soul of the Califorianian.

Having said that, everybody I know, that's voting for Obama is proud to do it. They know what a historic moment it will be to vote for him and are excited to do it. Based on that, I think people will turn out in droves just to actually perform our great national ritual.

36. NO CHANCE
I understand the fear but I think this election and the reason
Barack Obama is doing so well is precisely because people want
to go on the record and take a stand for this country. There
is no complacency in this election. Everyone is so eager for
change, so eager to go on the record to express their
discontentment with the last 8 years, the war in Iraq, the
economy, healthcare, etc., that no one will allow voters from
another state to decide their vote.

44. CA is Obama Country for sure
But. As a CA native with decades of activity there, I suggest that the high blown snark of those who see California as perma-Blue is not a well earned snark. I suggest that while CA will absolutley go for Barack Obama, CA also elects and re-elects Republican Govs with regularity. Arnold supports not just McCain, but Palin, says she's qualified and a great choice. Democrats voted for him. That is not the sort of thing that goes on in perma-Blue territory. Something to think about. Senator Arnold, coming soon.
Just yesterday I read a 'Democrat' on this very board saying he'd voted for Arnold because Phil 'refused to mount a campaign'. Umm. So he voted for a pro-Palin Republican because he was miffed at Phil's style. Went with an Republican. And says so openly.
My point is just that on the down ticket and State level, CA is not as Blue as some like to pretend. History gives us Reagan, Wilson, Dukemajian, Arnold as Gov. Oh and Brown once. Davis who was sacrificed to Enron. People like Dryer and Cunningham describe CA politics as much as anyone else does.
I think CA would do well to get serious. Not because this election might go the other way, but because many others already do go the other way, too often.
If my Gov was the Terminator, I'd think twice before bragging about the deep Blue Progressivness of my State. I'd also be working like mad to make sure the Blue sticks and the Red is driven back. Sadly, the majority of Californians I know are complacent, certain that electing Republicans is 'different' in CA, and far too worried about their 'net worth' and such to even bother with politics. They are proud of being 'too busy' to volunteer. So they don't.
Not saying anything but CA, stay on your game, and after Nov 4th, you have huge work to do. Arnie must not go to the Senate, and he expects to stroll into DiFi's seat without much effort. Senator Running Man, how 'Blue' would that be?

I did last week. Besides being the most important election of our time, it's also historic. Proposition 8 will get democratic voters out. Democrats like civil rights. I have been pushing hard on a no on 4 also. We have to protect our young women.

50. I guess California is not one I worry so much about..
The numbers are so staggeringly in our favor..but more than one election has been lost on complacence, that is true. This time, though, with all the early turnout, and the hard work we are doing at the local levels.. I am not seeing it myself.

Quite the opposite.. tremendous enthusiasm, with the exception of a few undecideds, which is just lost on me right now. What are they looking for
