New York Times Gets First Look At The Obama Special.
The Obamacast

The Times gets a first look:

The trailer is heavy in strings, flags, presidential imagery and some Americana filmed by Davis Guggenheim, whose father was the campaign documentarian of Robert F. Kennedy. As the screen flashes scenes of suburban lawns, a freight train and Mr. Obama seated at a kitchen table with a group of white, apparently working-class voters, Mr. Obama says: “We’ve seen over the last eight years how decisions by a president can have a profound effect on the course of history and on American lives; much that’s wrong with our country goes back even farther than that.”

Then, while standing before a stately desk and an American flag, Mr. Obama, in a suit, says: “We’ve been talking about the same problems for decades and nothing is ever done to solve them. For the past 20 months, I’ve traveled the length of this country, and Michelle and I have met so many Americans who are looking for real and lasting change that makes a difference in their lives.”

There will also be a live section from a Florida rally.

Sounds gripping, no?

Yes we have. And? Sounds gripping to me that someone is reiterating this for the uninformed.

10. I Actually Liked Ross Perot's Informecial - The First One At Least
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 10:49 PM by Median Democrat
The first was was quite informative, rather than getting a summary description of "health care, tax cuts, etc," that does not tell you much. I admit that Perot's informericial was the first time I took the deficit seriously. I do hope that Obama has a similar informative content. Heck, I would love to see some graphs to really break down Obama's proposals, but I like wonky stuff. Too much info might turn off the WWE crowd.

The only problem with Perot is that he kept on playing informercials that did not add anything new.

20. Perot did a good job with his graphs.

Obama keeps making the right steps. And almost all of his campaigin is aimed at the center, the independent swing voters. Not at us here at DU. Maybe we are not the one to ask.

13. Of course it will turn some people off..
regardless of content. But then again, there are many people out there that have not heard him speak at length, or heard from any advocate on most of the tv shows. I would imagine that is the reason why he is doing this. John McCain has FOX 24/7, CNN 22/7, and MSNBC 12/7. What's a guy to do?

24. If you read the last paragraph of the NYT article Obama says
He doesn't care if it turns off some voters - they can turn the channel. I dont think he was being snarky. I think this is meant to motivate his base and possibly take a stab at undecided voters. Although I think it seems like his most important goal is to just make sure his committed voters are energized to go vote. I think he's probably convinced that they have the numbers in terms of registered voters.

I'm sure it will be very well made. Everything he's done so far has been first class - I'm sure this will be no different.

43. Yes, I agree. I think Obama's more worried about turnout/complacency
than getting more votes. The demographics are such that he could probably win handily without much of the independent voters if he turned out enough of the Democratic base due to the overwhelming advantage we currently have in party registrations and the possibility of a depressed turnout from a much less enthused Republican base.

So yeah, I worry a little bit because of the possible spin (there's no way you can idiot-proof ANYTHING and with the media involved, you are dealing with a lot of idiots) but I'm also rather reassured due to the track record Obama's had so far with dealing with such things.

the Obama campaign we will probably get within the "inner" circle down front! I went to the Dunedin one and it was packed!

My daughter went to Dunedin AND Tampa... so the fact that he's coming to Sarasota says volumes!! Sarasota NEVER gets National candidates because it's so RED!! The Bridge Walk was astounding even IF the local media didn't cover it!! Rats to them!!
