What's with this "unified government" meme that has been floating around lately?
Even Daniel Schorr commented on it today on NPR although, frankly, I have no idea whether or not he was saying if it was a good thing or not but he only gave examples of unified DEMOCRATIC government during FDR, LBJ, and Clinton (the first 2 years anyway). Interestingly, he did NOT mention the first 6 years of GWB. I thought Schorr was a liberal/progressive, no?

Anyway, I'm getting REALLY tired of hearing pundits and commentators pushing this idea that the prospect of having a President Obama and a (strongly) Democratic Congress is somehow going to be risky and that there somehow will be no "checks" on their unquenched thirst for power and domination. It's particularly laughable that McCain is somehow worrying about what the triumvirate of Obama, Reid, and Pelosi might do with a solid Democratic governing block, Reid and Pelosi's epic leadership failures and hostility towards progressives/liberals during the past session notwithstanding.

I wish that the pundits and commentators, none of whom AFAIK spoke out at all about Republican dominance of the Presidency and Congress during the first 6 years of GWB, would STFU about the Democrats running the show. There is always going to be a risk of excess when one party controls the Presidency and White House but that's been true regardless of which party is in control at any given time and, frankly IMHO the alternative of allowing more rampant Republican obstructionism is far worse. I don't get the sense that this argument is getting much traction with voters, particularly since this is a "change" election and I doubt that many people want even more "gridlock" but I wish that the pundits and commentators wouldn't push it so hard (on behalf of McCain).

Has anybody able to stomach the corporate media seen any evidence that this is being pushed hard by them and/or gaining any traction in the polls (beyond right wingers searching for their next "bogeyman" fix)? I think Cafferty did a piece on it last week but nearly all of the comments I read on his blog indicated little concern about it.
