Palin wants Stevens out so she can run for Senator!
Palin has called for Sen. Stevens to resign. Why??

So she can run for the Senate seat in a special election early next year.

She knows that McCain is beat and she is now positioned to make a run at the open seat.

MARK MY WORDS!

2. But isn't Stevens up for re-election this year?
And isn't his seat in jeopardy?

6. Now, if he resigns...
doesn't that mean that the governor of the state picks a Republican to run
in that Senate race, against the Democrat?

If so, what would stop her from picking herself?

10. His election is Nov 4th too
Not sure what the law is for candidates. as a sitting senator today Palin would be required by Alaska law to appoint a R as his replacement. But not sure if she can replace a candidate with another candidate.

12. Alaska law prohibits Palin or family member being appointed.
Previous Governor tried this and law was changed to prevent it.

9. She will have to wait 6 years for that seat
because if Begich beats Stevens on Tuesday (and I can't see how Stevens could possibly win as a convicted felon), the seat belongs to Begich for 6 years starting the new session of congress in January. If Steven were to resign before January (when his current term ends anyway) the most anyone could do would be to have a special election for Stevens' seat that would expire this coming January. Who would want that?

14. Wouldn't she want to stay Governor to get more "Executive Experience"
She's probably already planning her 2012 presidential run. Since it's "executive experience" that really matters, I would think she would want to remain a Governor.

15. Never happen. Why risk running & losing? She's already a contender for 2012.
She has nothing to gain by running except an opportunity to look stupid in the US Senate and everything to lose by forfeiting her only calling cards: a paper thin "executive experience" credit and her reputation as a Washington outsider.
