African-Americans In New York State Give Hillary Clinton 91% Approval Rating
Fences mended?

During the primary, there was speculation that Hillary had irreparably damaged her standing with black voters.

As Howard Wolfson points out, it appears not:

Judging by today’s Marist poll whatever fence mending that was needed with New Yorkers has been accomplished. The survey finds Clinton garnering the highest job approval ratings of her career — 62% of New Yorkers say the junior Senator is doing an excellent or good job. African American voters — a particular focus of the Times piece – give her a 91% positive approval rating.

4. Not terribly surprising. She's redeemed herself in my eyes.
All the animosity I had towards her in the primaries is gone...she has gone above and beyond for Obama in the last few months and I now find myself hoping she runs in 2016. So I guess a lot of black voters in NY feel the same way. Also, if I recall from the exit polls she got a fairly respectable showing among African Americans in the NY primary...I think close to 40%.

10. 68 is not that old
And she looks younger than she is...I was surprised to find out she was 60 (I guess 61 now). I would have guessed mid-50's.

18. It's old to start being president. Obama's not waiting until he's 60 let alone 68.
And good for him.

FDR started out at 50. JFK younger. Bubba, in his 40s. Obama in his 40s.

68 is nearly as old as Reagan started out.

6. Speculation by the same talking heads who give McShame so much credit
and airtime. They love to create beef and divisions where there are none.

AA voters recognized that Bill Clinton was saying what he had to say to help his wife. No hard feelings there; besides--many of the black New Yorkers I know really wanted Clinton to win!

12. Probably because Obama got the nomination
If she'd got the sds to overturn his lead in regular delegates, I think her popularity probably wouldn't be so high.

16. I never thought Hillary needed redemption in the first place.
Nor did I see much animosity directed at her in this part of the country. I know quite a few AA people who voted for her in the primaries, from coworkers and friends to the many who volunteered and campaigned for her. In PA we had bus loads of people who would come from NY on weekends and at least half of them were AA. The media fanned the flames of division for their own self interest, but I don't think the rift was as deep as they made it out to be.

;-)

20. Why is it when it comes to women and minorities...

there are still people that don't think they can asses issues objectively.

Remember, when white women were going to favor a a pro-life, rape kit charging, right wing hack just because she was a woman?

Hillary Clinton has an outstanding record on racial issues. There is no reason why she should not have a real good approval rating among African Americans.

Thank you to the citizens of New York... as we bust stereotypes one election at at time!

doing what she can in swing states since then.
