2. The voters will fix that next Tuesday
He will lose and then there will be no posibility of that happening.

3. I heard she doesn't have to run.
She can appoint herself.

8. you heard wrong. Governor can't fill vacancy in Alaska
Law was changed after Murkowski appointed his daughter. Only way to fill vacancy is with a special election. In theory, if --- and its a big and unlikely if -- Stevens wins on 11/4 and then resigns, Palin could run for the seat in the special election that would be called to fill the seat.

10. Apparently she can't
Someone brought up this scenario last night, and apparently that's not the way it works in Alaska anymore.

If Stevens actually won re-election next week, and then resigned, they would have to have another election to replace him.

Of course Moosealini could always run in that election. But I don't see her winning.

4. Can only happen if Stevens wins on Nov 4
He isn't going to win. I am not an expert on Alaskans (though my daughter is technically one now) but I don't think they are going to elect a convicted felon to the US Senate no matter how much pork he has brought them.

5. Ummm... no...

If Stevens drops out now, the remainder of his term ends on January 20th.

Are you suggesting that Stevens has a realistic possibility of winning the election for the term which begins on January 20th?

9. Throwing what out?

When are you proposing that he resign his Senate seat? Now, or after a hypothetical win?

That's what I don't understand about what it is you want to discuss.

11. After a win, assuming he's pressured to resign.

13. A couple of things can happen

The Senate can refuse to seat him by a 2/3 vote.

If he resigns after winning the election, then whatever procedure Alaska has is followed (this varies from state to state, btw, since states are responsible for whatever procedure is used to select their Senators).

7. It can't happen
The election next week is for a full 6 year term, regardless of him stepping aside, there is no legal precedent for a special election. His name will still be on the ballot and the GOP is stuck with that.

12. He was either tied or behind in polls before this and I doubt this will help him.
p.s.
I'm not convinced that Palin could win a special election for the Senate.

14. Alternate Scenario: Stevens loses..Palin loses..
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 05:12 PM by ddeclue
Stevens goes to the inter-jail (a series of connected cells...)

Palin is investigated for her own corruption for her own house goes to Alaskan jail.

McCranky retires to Phoenix.

The End...

16. Palin will never win another election in Alaska
That will now be a Democratic seat in any event, unless Stevens wins and stays.
