Phony flier says Virginians vote on different days

RICHMOND

A phony State Board of Elections flier advising Republicans to vote on Nov. 4 and Democrats on Nov. 5 is being circulated in several Hampton Roads localities, according to state elections officials.

In fact, Election Day, for voters of all political stripes, remains Nov. 4.

The somewhat official-looking flier - it features the state board logo and the state seal - is dated Oct. 24 and indicates that "an emergency session of the General Assembly has adopted the follwing (sic) emergency regulations to ease the load on local electorial (sic) precincts and ensure a fair electorial process."

The four-paragraph flier concludes with: "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but felt this was the only way to ensure fairness to the complete electorial process."

1. It just wouldn't seem like a real election year unless someone pulled this tired old gag.
Has anyone in history ever fallen for this and shown up to vote the day after?

3. K&R - standard item in Republican election manipulation tool box -- Robo-fliers
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 11:15 AM by Overseas
They've gotta depress Democratic vote counts somehow, so voter misdirection is one of their old fashioned tools to do so.

For Modern Republicans, the Ends Justify the Means.

To review the whole range of techniques, from distribution of too few voting machines to Democratic precincts by Republican Secretaries of State to make the lines hours long, to robocalls and robofliers misdirecting voters, to electronic fraud--

check out this calm, comprehensive documentary about recent election manipulations with some historical comparisons:

4. Please take this to your local Obama office
so they can do something to counter the misinformation.

5. K&R! K&R! K&R!
I'm coming back all day today to make sure your post stays on the top of page one.

I live in VA, and I've been saying since I started posting on DU a couple of months ago that if there are dirty tricks this year, you can look right to VA.

The Repubs here are a concentrated microcosm of the party at large and they are dismayed, confused and completely pissed that this state is going blue. It's the old guard, the good ole boys network, whatever you want to call it and they are not going to go down without a fight.

The only HUGE indicator that is going to make it very difficult for them to steal this election is that Mark Warner, the Dem. running for Senate, is not running double digits ahead of his opponent.

And pardon me if you are in VA, but I will include this for other DUers who read your post and then mine, Hampton Roads is one of the large enclaves of AA voters in the southeast coastal region of VA and they experienced horrendously long lines in the primaries.............
