To those making over $250,000 a year and are upset about a 3% income tax increase, I'll make a deal:
Let's trade salaries, and I'll pay your taxes AND MINE.

OK, lurking Freepers---any takers?

1. That's what I don't get. It's a stupid 3% increase.
10% I could see uproar. 3%?! They need to calm themselves.

2. Are you kidding me?
FReepers don't make anywhere near $250K. Maybe if you add a few of them together they would reach that magic number.

12. Very IMPORTANT point!
250,000 no more tax
260,000 $300 more
270,000 $600 more
280,000 $900 more

I don't think the freepers get it.

I bet most freepers cheat on their taxes anyway, and few of them make 250,000

9. The 3% is only on the amount over 250k
so the increase on a 300k taxable (different from your gross income) would be 1500.00.

1500 dollars more.

10. It would be a $7500 increase if you made $500,000...
'cause the increase is 3% only on the amount above $250,000.

7. No kidding. If your making an obscene amount of money, like how much more do you need?
I suppose some of the people making a quarter million to a couple million bucks a year might have to settle for a 100 foot yacht as opposed to a 110 footer. How devastating.

8. In the wealthiest neighborhood in my town the Obama signs way outnumber McCain signs.
Lots of wealthy people recognize that it's a bargain to a pay a little more in taxes to have the country in the hands of rational people. They realize that it's better to pay a little more in taxes than to lose one's job. Or lose one's child in a pointless war.

11. We make just a tad over that and have no problem paying
3% more. However, I will take your deal as long as you agree to also take both of my mortgages, the property taxes, the 10 grand a year for medical insurance, my state, county and city taxes, my business taxes and my 65 thousand dollar a year chemo bill which is the part my insurance does not pay.

Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 09:51 AM by rateyes
however, if I take on your expenses, you have to take on mine. Mortgage, property taxes, health insurance, car payments for my wife, myself, and my two of my 3 children, room and board for my two college students (thank goodness scholarships cover each of their $25,000 a year tuitions.), and all the normal expenses of living with a 14 year old in the home.

17. That's the part one rarely hears.............it only kicks in after $250,000
Now if I'm making a quarter mill a year, I may not want to pay an extra $3000 on that next hundred grand, but it isn;t going to keep me from putting food on the table..........

If the WW2 generation was the "greatest", our grandchildren will consider our generation the "most selfish", because we apparently like to run up tabs and not pay them, only send them on to them.

20. They just don't understand.
When workers are denied a living wage and the benefits that go with it, they will vote for a tax hike every time. Note to fat cats: Pay your employees a living wage or be taxed to provide the services that make up for it.

21. I make that much and I'm not upset about a tax increase
I'm more upset that the economy is in toilet and the country is run by lying thugs. The additional taxes are a small price to pay for some real change.

22. Thta tax increase
is negated by the vast amount of people that suddenly have money to buy things from your business.

I own a small business that account for %100 of my wealth, I look forward to people walking in the doors with cash in their pockets to buy what I sell. I also look forward to seeing more young professionals that now many more people will have the opportunity to educate themselves like everyone else.

More consumers with money = more money flowing in my business.

Taxing consumers and giving oil buddies huge tax breaks = myself and everyone else suffering.

23. These people are idiots.
The real "rich" never pay taxes. I'll give you a case in point. One of my friends owns a corporation with total assets around $8 million and with a debt of around $3 million. His total revenue is around $850,000. With his mortgage interest payments and $250,000 a year depreciation along with his $80,000 a year "salary", his corporation loses around $20,000 / year.

Now for the real kicker. My friend does not have to pay any social security taxes or income taxes on that $80,000. The reason why is that it is considered unearned income by the IRS. Every 10 years my friend lends his corporation $800,000 dollars in assets. The $80,000 a year "salary" is considered under current tax rules as a loan repayment, and therefore is considered unearned income.

I don't know what all the rich folks are complaining about.
