McCain Guarantees Victory in a Squeaker Race
McCain guarantees victory

Sun Oct 26, 11:34 am ET AP

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he can “guarantee” a win on Nov. 4 in a squeaker victory that won’t be clear until late that night.

McCain spoke amid signs of a tightening race, and reports of renewed determination among his staff, which is badly outgunned in both money and manpower.

“I guarantee you that two weeks from now, you will see this has been a very close race, and I believe that I'm going to win it,” McCain told interim "Meet" moderator Tom Brokaw. “We're going to do well in this campaign, my friend. We're going to win it, and it's going to be tight, and we're going to be up late.”

McCain was down just 5 points in the Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released Sunday, with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) leading by 49 percent to 44 percent among likely voters in the daily tracking poll, which has a margin of error of 2.9 points.

I have a very bad feeling that they are going to steal this, folks.

2. McCain is such a loser
telling people that Obama is already measuring the drapes and writing his inaugural speech, then he turns back and says he's gonna win the election

3. What do you expect him to say?
"I'm gonna get my ass kicked hard and we're losing badly down ticket."

"Guaranteeing" a victory is the talking point of a losing campaign.

21. I expect him to say that it's going
to be close and get out the vote and hustle all they can.

Not fucking guarantee something he can't.

6. I think this is a BIG reason for McLame's sorry-ass campaign: "not to worry ....
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 06:25 PM by Impeachment_Monkey
... Diebold will save our asses" by electronically switching and buggering votes in the middle of the night.

...problem is, this "ace in the hole" sapped the campaign of a sense of urgency and ability to build a convincing
campaign... and this is PAINFULLY obvious to virtually EVERYONE. Obama rallies drawing 100,000, McCain rallies
1,000 if he's lucky. Last minute avalanche of "endorsements" from leading republicans.

... If they try to steal this one, flying in the face of our lying eyes, we may as well cancel all future elections,
and just admit we've been taken over by the Dark Side and there's no turning it back, ever.

8. Why do you have a bad feeling?
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 06:28 PM by Drunken Irishman
Do tell. Know something we don't?

I'm interested in hearing what people think John McCain should say? I bet you didn't even hear Walter Mondale say he'd lose.

God, it's like DUers don't even get how elections work. I sometimes want to slam my head against the wall at the ignorance displayed by some posters. McCain has to say he's going to win, anything less would kill his campaign and ruin the Republican Party. You never, ever, ever give up, even if it looks like victory is far out of reach. :eyes:

Jesus, even when Clinton was losing and it looked mathematically impossible for her to win, she still said she was going to be victorious! Yeesh.

And don't call me ignorant. I've been through two stolen elections, as we all have. I have a right to be frightened. So should you be.

17. I will because I'm tired of DUers saying "they're going to steal it" over and over again.
They only were allowed to steal it in 2004 and 2000 because our candidates ran horrible campaigns. Obama isn't Gore. Obama isn't Kerry. Neither had the lead Obama does today. Neither had the electoral map to work with like Obama does today. Both Kerry and Gore put all their eggs into the Florida basket and because of that, the foundation for theft was there. Had Kerry decided to campaign in Colorado, Iowa and New Mexico, he would have won regardless of Florida and Ohio. Had Gore won his own state or just won little New Hampshire, HE would have won.

It's their own damn fault for allowing it to come down to one state, a state that was dominated by Republicans. Obama, though, stretched the map and has run a far better campaign than either could have ever hoped to run.

11. lol, are you fucking kidding me?
It's code for keeping the morale of his campaign up in the final week. Have you ever heard any candidate in recent presidential history, no matter how far behind, say "we're gonna lose!"? No.

So why read into his words here? Do you think McCain would really admit he's going to lose this thing?

14. that's code for "we're getting the shit kicked out of us"
he is acknowledging that he can't win decisively and that he's behind.
If there was any reason for him to say it's close, he'd say so.

15. No way they can steal it.
If the polls show Obama up 5 or more, there will be absolute hell for everyone to pay if the election does not indicate Obama.

I wish people would stop talking about vote suppression and election fraud during the vote period. It suppresses turnout and is not good for us.

18. As I said earlier, he's trying to keep the base from bolting.
If the base thinks he's going to lose, then a lot of them don't show up to vote. That turns an 8 point loss turns into a 16 point loss, as well as 8 senate seats and 20 house seats into 11 senate seats and 35 house seats.

McCain has to say that. A candidate doesn't come out and say "we're gonna lose." He has to keep the morale up of his supporters.

23. The article's headline is misleading. He doesn't guarantee victory.

He guarantees a close race and says that he believes he will prevail. That's not the same as guaranteeing a win.

you're an idiot. Actually read the fucking quote. A losing candidate will NEVER admit he's losing or going to lose and the McCain campaign has been ESPECIALLY bald in its rhetoric and hubris, in ALL aspects. Why would you expect less here? Get a fucking grip already.

He's losing. He's trying to keep the morale of his supporters up. I don't see anything wrong, or maniacal about it.
