McCain volunteer who made up story remains jailed

Ashley Todd, the 20-year-old Texas woman accused of falsely claiming to have been attacked in Bloomfield because she was a McCain volunteer, remained in jail last night pending a mental health evaluation.

Police said Ms. Todd was in the Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 bond after her arraignment Friday before District Judge John N. Bova on a charge of filing a false report with police. Judge Bova requested that she undergo an evaluation by the jail's behavior clinic.

She is scheduled to return to court on Thursday.
