West Virginia is a quintessential "Reagan Democrat" State...
Today West Virginia is a quintessential "Reagan Democrat" State. Lots of blue-collar registered Dems who happen to be racist militarists.

Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Pennsylvania are what I think of when someone says "Reagan Democrat."

In 1980 Reagan Crushed Carter. Carter even lost Massachusetts, the only state McGovern won in 1972.

Carter only won a handful of states:

Hawaii
Rhode Island
Maryland
Minnesota (Mondale's home state)
Georgia (Carter's home state)

and...

West Virginia.

WV, GA, AZ, TX, MT & ND.

Plus NE's 2d Congressional District.

The path to 446.
