The Syria story is really nothing
The story will die and no one will pay much attention to it.

October Surprise? Not even close.

1. I agree. I think it's silly how some are panicking over this story here

2. No one will pay attention to it?
Then I suggest you google "mccain syria" each morning this week to count how many times the campaign will capitalize on the fact the Iraq war was finally in the news again.

The fact the first time we attack the other side of the border is a bit over a week before a major election the GOP is losing will come into news play also.

5. Iraq war was finally in the news again?
Because of a cross border raid into Syria?

This story is not significant. Heck even Iran and Turkey carry cross border raids into Iraq.

6. You're on. I bet you tomorrow it isn't even an issue.
If it is, I'll leave the board until election night, ok?

You're making something out of nothing.

But that's the DU way. Every time anything happens, people panic.

Well DON'T panic. It's nothing.

3. I agree, it sounds like they chased someone just over
the border. I thought that had already happened once or twice.

11. It actually sounds like they killed a whole fucking family over there.
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 02:37 PM by Arrowhead2k1
This is significant, but not in a way to change the election. Nothing to panic over certainly, but something to be pissed off about becuase I suspect the US just killed more innocent people today.

15. I'm not trying to minimize death, all war does that.
I'm just saying it doesn't sound like anything that hasn't happened before.

7. Exactly, how is this different than every other border skirmish over the last X number of years?
The military has had multiple border incursions. Just because this happened in October doesn't make it a game changer.

12. Not into Syria - this is the first time...
But, that said, I would hardly call this an October surpirse or any sort of game-changer.

14. I think this hurts McCain, if anything
Short of capturing Bin Laden, there is nothing the Bush administration can do now that America won't reject as just more war mongering bullshit.

16. At this stage, this will have no effect whatsoever on the election...
It's just another mess Obama's going to have to clean up come January.
