Another scary pre-Halloween thought--
Palin ends up as Stevens' replacement in the Senate--While it is scary, indeed, it could provide her with a well-watched opportunity to fall flat on those lipsticked lips--unable to demonstrate that she will effect change in Washington--unable to demonstrate an ability to actually work effectively with those on the other side of the aisle, and unable to afford to continue the wardrobe shenanigans for herself and her family.

1. What is the policy in Alaska for replacing Senators? That would
give her the exposure she wants for 2012. On the other hand it would also provide her with more opportunity to look ignorant.

AS 15.40.145. Temporary Appointment of United States Senator. ..
When a vacancy occurs in the office of United States senator, the governor may, at least five days after the date of the vacancy but within 30 days after the date of the vacancy, appoint a qualified individual to fill the vacancy temporarily until the results of the special election called to fill the vacancy are certified. If a special election is not called for the reasons set out in AS 15.40.140 , the individual shall fill the vacancy temporarily until the results of the next general election are certified.

****

It looks like she would have to resign as governor and her succeeding lieutenant governor would do the appointment.
