The John Birch Society used to call Joseph Stalin "Uncle Joe," in derisive reference to the US alliance with Russia during WWII. Get it? Barney Frank is a Communist according to the Republicans.

That Pegler quote in her nomination speech was a dog whistle. She had a speech written prior to her nomination because she was going to be speaking at the convention, so it could be that Matthew Scully merged her speech with whatever he'd written when he came up with the final product. I initially thought Scully had written the whole speech but later found out she'd written one of her own before she knew she'd be McCain's VP pick.
