Election fraud
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 11:46 PM by noise
I will never understand why some citizens are so quick to dismiss concerns about electronic voting as "conspiracy theory nonsense."

Why do we have a Constitution and the rule of law? Why not throw it away and simply trust our leaders to act in good faith? Granted, this isn't the best analogy in light of the past few years (to say the least). But it addresses the mentality of those who will not consider that if there are no checks on electronic voting that fellow citizens will try to steal elections.

Good faith is simply not a sufficient standard. Authoritarian trust in any leaders isn't indicative of patriotism. Rather, it is indicative of maudlin nationalistic fantasies.

2. No one here will disagree that there is election fraud
What I've found, and I happen to be one of them, is that we are tired of people saying in no uncertain terms it doesn't matter how far ahead we are, it doesn't matter basically if we vote, the election will be stolen. It gets to be a bit depressing when we have some of the election fraud folks come in to uplifting threads about the election and state, "doesn't matter, the repubs own the machines, we won't win... it's gonna be stolen."

When you have too much of that, you start to tune out the negativity.

As Randi Rhodes has said (among others), "Make them steal it."

I mostly get upset by GOP a-holes who spout off self righteously about "anti-American nuts who dare to suggest the public wouldn't vote for (corrupt) GOP politicians." Truth be told, I haven't forgotten the GOP circus after Sen. Boxer did the right thing by challenging the Ohio vote.

Sorry but we aren't all on the same page. Case in point Rep. Bachmann. The GOP campaign. So it's tiresome when the mainstream media (including newspapers) pretend that all Americans value fair elections. IMO, it simply isn't true. The GOP has contempt for democracy.

9. I agree that it seems the last few election cycles it's becoming more frequent
And it's sad that the MSM doesn't cover it fairly and widely nor it seems anything is done about it in a serious manner. However, if we give up hope that our vote will count, there really is no reason whatsoever to participate in the electoral process. In a way, as another DUer (whom I can't remember) said, suggesting our votes don't count because of election fraud is another form of voter suppression. That's not to say that we shouldn't be aware of it but we do have to retain faith that the electoral process counts for something otherwise we become another Venezuela where it appears as though it's a democratic election but in fact, it's not.

4. This trust me has got to stop. Electronics cannot be trusted at any time.
We also love and trust our authoritarian mayors here in NYC. A sort of pathological laziness about democracy.

10. It's ALMOST comical
the way some pundits talk about the wonders of the voting process. The people who lied about the reasons for going to war are going to draw the line at trying to screw with elections?

GOP strategist: Hey guys. Focus! Lying about war is one thing but you are talking about fixing elections! That is over the line! We can't do that.

Senior GOP strategist: Who sent the comedian?

6. Here's a wild idea to avoid getting purged by Republikkkans!
This may be to late but what if you just registered to vote as a republican? Then republikkkans wouldn't purge you, it sounds crazy but they wouldn't purge or try to disqualify your vote if they think you're one of them. Then come election day you just vote democrat.
