Let's just have a moment of DU sympathy for all the folks who are going to be waking up with that sick, sad, disgusted feeling this November 5...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!

Did you think I was serious? Join me in a toast to schadenfreude! :toast:

18. I can't muster any sympathy
The best I can do is to try at forgiveness. Sympathy? That is really hard.

4. We are allowed to be excited!!!

I hate all this doom and gloom on DU all the time -- this EXCITEMENT is what propelled me to spend all day today working on voter turnout in Ohio.

12. Put up a poll -- ask DUers if they are excited about their candidate

Go to an Obama HQ in your town and ask the volunteers if they are excited. I think you'll find you're mistaken...

15. Yes, we are all excited. However, we aren't counting our chickens before they're hatched...
That's all... I totally appreciate your efforts and I'm doing the same. And yes, it is exciting. But we aren't there yet! We have a long way to go. and we have to do it right this time.

3. Look, I remember all too well, going to bed on Election Night, 2000...
relishing in the idea that Gore would be our next president and when I woke up... well, we all know how that went...

I am not assuming anything these days...

I'm not running a victory lap until November 5.

It doesn't mean I wasn't out all day working for Obama, and it doesn't mean I won't be out all day tomorrow. Jeezums.

16. I'm surprised ANYONE did that...
In 2000, I stopped watching election coverage around mid-evening (on the west coast), when it became clear to me that Bush had won Florida and the presidency. I was actually shocked when I picked up the paper the next morning and found out that a) the EV race was still "too close to call," and b) Gore had won the popular vote.

In 2004, I went to bed with the news that the race was going to come down to a likely Ohio recount. I figured we were in for a re-hash of 2000, with no resolution until early December. The shock came for me late the next morning, with the news that Kerry was giving up the fight.

20. Well, I did
I remember going to bed before they called back Florida in 2000, and was hitting the pillow when Pennsylvania's results were announced in 2004. So both times, I went to bed thinking we had elected a Dem & woke up to nightmares instead. I was super-pissed when Kerry tossed in the towel without even putting up a miniscule fight (& sitting on $45 mill).

8. I don't have a memory of a "good" presidential election.
I was 9 in 1996, and don't remember anything about election night. Then came 2000 and 2004. Here's hoping for a different result this time.

2000 was the first election I could vote in. I share your hope that this one will be a helluva lot better! :)

14. Thank you -- I appreciate that!

The only thing that got me through '04 was feeling like I'd done everything I could. It still HURT though. :(

I understand the "don't count the chickens until they hatch" mentality -- but I think we (or at least I) need to feel like there's a light at the end of the tunnel. That's what will keep me working up until (and though) election day!
