Do any of you DU'ers have a stopwatch to time the minutes MSNBC ...
gives over to McSame/Failin speeches, interviews and sound bites?

It seems to me that MSNBC is bending over backwards for those two.

I see two minutes of Biden in VA today, and they cut away. Then later they do 7 minutes of McCain someplace.

What part of the fairness doctrine does MSNBC NOT understand?

I'm serious! Can we count up the minutes we have to listen to Sarah Failin talking nonsense?

Compare that with the few seconds of Joe Biden?
Compare McSame addressing 2000 die-hard Republicons with 3 minutes of Obama addressing 100,000 in St Louis last weekend?

PLEASE someone, time this out for an hour or two.

2. I started a thread a few minutes ago on the same thing.
It was unreal. They showed Palin in Iowa, but not Biden in VA. They barely even talked about Biden....or Obama for that matter.

9. I am sorry I missed your thread... hate duplicates, but geeze!
This goes beyond realistic, they are devoting this entire hour to McSame/Failin interviews from Brian whatever....filmed days ago... this is stupid.

3. CNN as well.
They show entire McCain/Palin speeches every day, but only snippets of Obama and Biden.

4. Um...we don't have the fairness doctrine anymore..
"The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was (in the FCC's view) honest, equitable, and balanced. The United States Supreme Court has upheld the Commission's general right to enforce such a policy where channels are limited, but the courts have generally not considered that the FCC is obliged to do so.<1> The FCC has since withdrawn the Fairness Doctrine, prompting some to urge its reintroduction through either Commission policy or Congressional legislation.

10. Yeah, I sort of realized that, but I thought major networks TRIED..
to be somewhere NEAR fair.

I guess that was back in Clinton's day! Oh yeah hours and hours about the blue dress.

5. What part of the fairness doctrine does MSNBC NOT understand?
Unfortunately, even if the Fairness Doctrine was still in effect, it never applied to cable TV.

7. I've been watching MSNBC's coverage for fairness today..
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 03:44 PM by nc4bo
Here's what I got:

MSNBC - Biden in Va., received 5 minutes of airtime. Biden was the airtime loser today.

MSNBC - Mccain in NM, is working on 8 minutes of pure BS and if you count the talking butthole talking over this rally(?) before dropping the feed, close to 8.5-9.

MSNBC - Obama in Nevada - Started at 1:16 the audio problems hit around 1:22. They break and do commercials then back to the rally to the end (of their coverage). Surprisingly it was very close to Mccain's time.

I don't think MSNBC covered Palin at all in IA. I could be wrong, needed to go check my mail.

I sorta played the guard dog today and I was just on MSNBC. CNN, like another poster stated in another thread, carried 100% of Palin's rally.

ETA - sorry had to clarify O's rally time.

11. This is disgusting use of time. This entire hour is devoted to
McCain/Palin. The party with NO PLATFORM... the candidates with no functioning brains...

Where are the ISSUES and where is the NEWS today??

13. I think Tweety called this bullshit right back in the primaries.
Notice that they started favoring Gramps and Brainless more when Obama took a serious lead in the polls? They WANT a close race. They want this to go until 2 AM on election night, because it means ratings for them. It's not even a case of the network being "pro McCain" or "pro Obama", though the anchors of their shows clearly fall on one side or the other. They're pro ratings, pro advertising dollars and pro-keeping you hooked.

And if Obama has it in the bag 2 weeks out, then why keep watching? So they have to make it look like he doesn't.

Which isn't really a bad thing, because it might get more voters to the polls. And they won't be doing so to vote for more of the same old bullshit. :)
