Nov 4th Poll Closing Times for Individual States
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 03:08 PM by mrJJ
Poll Closing Times

Adjusted to Eastern Time (ET), these are the closing times for the polls in each state. This is likely to be the earliest time that results will be reported, and a winner possibly projected, for each state.

Note that states that span multiple time zones tend to close their polls at the same local time. So, for example, in the Eastern Time Zone of Florida the polls close at 7PM ET, while they close at 7PM Central Time (8PM ET). Since 8PM ET is the latest closing time, that is what we show in the list below.

This is not an official schedule, so don't rely on it to plan when to vote!

1. THIS is the part of the process that should NOT be rushed.
I would be perfectly happy to find out a couple of days later, and KNOW that all the votes have been counted.

2. No results, or predictions should be allowed by the media until every single poll in the country is
closed.

3. That'd suck for people living on the east coast.

Since you'd have to wait for Alaska and their polls don't close at 1:00.

4. Virginia closes at 7pm!
Now it will probably be close enough that they won't call it exactly AT 7 pm, but they probably will call it sometime in the hour following. Once Obama wins Virginia, he's won the whole thing.

We may know exactly who our next President is before 8 pm, normal time (EST) on Election Day!

:)

6. I agree. If Obama wins VA it's over because it confirms that the polling was correct.
No "Bradley effect" and no funny business at the polls. We can then assume other states will produce similar results.

8. Some NH polls close at 7 PM
Manchester closes at 7 PM. If Obama does reasonably well in the city, he takes the state.

9. Thank you ! I have to work (in CA) that night and I'm hoping I'll know quite a bit prior to
leaving for work.. we have no TV in the ER there and its killing me ! Looks like most of the states will be in before I have to head out on the 4th. I'll miss his acceptance speech, but can watch it on video.

Or, I could just call in sick :-)
