Stephen Baldwin: 'McCain can bring change'
Sarah Palin's 'favorite Baldwin' discusses his faith, support for John McCain

Actor, author, and born-again Christian Stephen Baldwin — who Sarah Palin last week referred to as her "favorite Baldwin brother" on "Saturday Night Live" — talks to TODAYshow.com about his faith and support for Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Baldwin's latest project is a work of fiction called "The Death and Life of Gabriel Phillips."

Q: Why do you think McCain is the best choice for our next president?

A: I think that right now everybody's freakin' out, and for a good reason. The next president of the United States has to look at multiple issues simultaneously. In the prioritization of that, of course it's our economy. We need someone who is prepared and experienced enough to deal with all that's on our plate now.

Q: Is Barack Obama the wrong choice for our country?

A: No, Barack is not the wrong choice. I just don’t think he's the right choice. Barack Obama is clearly a smart guy, talented. I think that guys like Obama, like Clinton, have had their eyes on this goal for a long time … becoming President of the United States. I don't believe personally that Barack Obama cares for America as authentically as John McCain.

Q: Why?

A: He's a politician.

Q: How is McCain more for America than Obama?

A: He served it 24 years longer. He is somebody who has demonstrated within his own party that he would rather do what's right for the people who elected him than what is right for his party. People want change. How is Barack going to do it? I think McCain can bring change.

Q: Do you support McCain/Palin because you are a Republican?

A: I'm a registered Independent. But my brother says it’s obvious that I'm a Republican sympathizer. Once I get in the voting booth it doesn’t matter. I just think in the now.

Q: The New York Daily News last week quoted you calling Barack Obama a "cultural terrorist." Can you explain your statement?

A: If you look up the definition of the words, a terrorist is someone who incites violence. The Bible says that "God knew us and formed us in our mother's wombs." Simply the fact that he's pro-abortion — that to me is a form of terrorism based on the dictionary definition.

Here's what's creepy about Obama: There's something else going on with this dude. That’s part of the mystery of Barack Obama. That is probably what will cause him to lose this election. As much as people love the phenomenal aspect of his message, there's a lot of unanswered issues about this dude. Creepy stuff. His birth certificate … you could call it all hokesy stuff.

John McCain doesn’t have anywhere near the amount of questions in his past as Barack Obama. Not even close. He's got Keating Five. He doesn't have things about his record and history and being that are in question. He's a war hero. He's literally one the last of a dying breed of heroes.

Yes, his comments are vile. I'm of the opinion that the more you understand about your opponent, the better your chances of winning. DU is a discussion forum, and this is part of the discussion, and that's why I posted it.

Everyone has their own. The only reason it's illegal is because we can't fight a war while

58. Could you please explain your reasoning? I have heard this before.
Please, exactly how is questioning ones birth credentials RACISM? I had to go though many
hoops to get mine when I moved back home from Vermont and never considered it racism.

In fact, the county clerk was extra nice since she noticed I had recently been railroaded
and illegally detained by my fellow Dems (yes, I still vote Dem but they got booted) in my county.

So, WTF is the logic behind asking for a BC being RACISM???

116. He has presented his birth certificate on numerous occasions
The Hawaii Department of Health has verified he was born in Hawaii and the birth certificate he has presented on three seperate occasions is real.

Yet, this is still called into question.

The ONLY reason that he has been placed under this scrutiny is because his father was Kenyan. There is no other reason.

12. McCain IS a war hero, right. But that doesn't qualify anyone to be President.
Jessica whatsername was a POW in Iraq, wasn't she? What's she doing these days? Maybe she can come be our President.

McCain is a political animal, just as Obama is. Maybe more so. He has "served" the country (make that...has "earned his living and gotten his healthcare from" the country) for decades, true. And that is precisely what makes him MORE of a politican than Obama.

What does it say about a politician with three decades of experience if he can't win his party's nomination once or twice, and then can't win the Presidency? It's fair to say that he doesn't really have the executive skills needed to run a campaign. Or a country.

So shut the hell up, Baldwin.

41. What has made McCain a war hero?
He is just as much a war hero as all those Germans that we capture and held prisoner during WWII. He wasn't much of a pilot and got his ass shot down. I will even overlook the fact that he provided information to the "enemy." But war hero, hell no. Nothing but a bunch of crapolla.

43. Maybe the German prisoners we captured were war heros, too. Not mutually exclusive.
I consider him a war hero. When you're tortured for years, then given the chance to go home but ask to stay, out of a sense of duty to others, that's a war hero. Few people would or could do that.

I don't know or care what info he may, or may not have, given to the enemy. To the extent he knew anything. Apparently he didn't say everything they wanted because they cont'd torturing him for years. There are eyewitness accounts to that, BTW.

He's a hero. Deal with it. So was Kerry, btw.

72. The Uniform Code of Conduct, not McCain's "sense of duty"...
is what prevented him from taking early release. His sorry ass would have been facing a court martial when he came back to the US.

136. He didn't have to. I'll research that a POW would've been court martialed for
accepting release, while others remain. It has happened quite a lot, so I'm sure there's a record somewhere of all the court martials.

It's no myth. Have you served, like Kerry? Do you remember the swiftboating of Kerry, a war hero? Some of you guys sound like they did. It doesn't make it right, when it's against THEIR political candidate.

Please give your links to the law that makes it a military crime to accept release, when there are other POWs in the same camp. Please give your links reciting the critical information that McCain gave to the enemy. I like facts. So far, I'm not seeing any that say he is not a war hero. By contrast, I have seen men on TV give eyewitness accounts of McCain's POW experiences. Plus, there is his firsthand account. Those are called facts. State yours (with links, since you weren't at that POW camp, I assume).

130. Would you still consider him a war hero if you knew he
left the scene of one of the worst aircraft carrier disasters in history, went to the ready room (a sort of "lounge" for pilots) and watched the ship and his shipmates on the flight deck burn to death in jet fuel on closed circuit tv? Would you still call him a war hero if you knew that the next day, he flew off the ship with a reporter and went on R&R, leaving the crew to care for the dead and dying?

Personally, I think he's lower than pond scum, a spoiled, privileged, sociopathic asswipe.

Really and truly, I'm shocked by the people who are Independents. Not to mention why the hell do they use it as an example that they're "nuetral" or impartial in their decision making? Obviously they're not.

Further more, the statement I hate the most and makes no damn sense.

Q: Is Barack Obama the wrong choice for our country?

A: No, Barack is not the wrong choice. I just don’t think he's the right choice.

Does the above make any sense, really?!

I won't even begin to touch on the problems I have had with this statement...it's people like McCAin that became complacent and allowed our nation to fall into the mess it's in today. Serving America into oblivion.

Q: How is McCain more for America than Obama?

A: He served it 24 years longer.

Not to mention Stephen Baldwin always had "snakey" eyes.

Their prosperity gospel swill is truly some of the most offensive, dishonest, evil uses of religion I have ever encountered. Not only is it a transparent scam with its "seed money" come-ons, but as a philosophy, a way of life it is right up there with "The Secret" in terms of absolute bullshit malarkey. I'll take a simply insane EndTimes propheteer over a malignant Prosperity profiteer any day.

Whew. That felt good.

As for Stephen Baldwin, it is no surprise he is resistant to Barack Obama's charisma, not possessing any of that quality himself.

1988, The Beast. (Released overseas as The Beast of War.

"It's hard to be a good man in a bad war."

Even if you hate war movies, I think most of you will enjoy this tight, gripping story of a Russian tank and its crew getting lost in Afghanistan.

It's hard to watch some scenes without thinking of the nightly news right now. Like the beginning, when a Soviet tank platoon roars into an Afghan village and blows up the mosque.

Of course, this was 1988, when the mujhadeen were still seen as heroes in the West.

Shot for a budget of about $1.98, in Israel. (Wonder what the mujhadeen thought about THAT?)

Oh, Stephen Baldwin. Meh. He plays a tank crewman named Golikov, in a real character part: he drinks the tank's hydraulic fluid.

As one IMDB reviewer noted...

Good performances (except for maybe Stephen Baldwin, who has no business being here -- or anywhere else).

Ever since I became a religious person, I've noticed how much our country is deteriorating. We're more worried about trees and rivers than about people. How can people who are so concerned about the environment allow a porn shop? The answer is easy. We stare at our constitution, which is so full of rights that everything gets mixed up and there are no more limits. For example, if one state after another allows gay marriage, maybe it'll be legal for a father to marry his daughter in ten years. What'll happen next? Can a woman marry her German Shepherd dog? Twenty years ago, the US mainstream considered gay marriage just as wrong and misguided as a woman marrying her dog. Where is all this going?"<<

77. The bible says a lot of shit
Including stoning wayward offspring to death.

Steve Baldwin; Another biblical cherry picker for Jesus.

Obama has made it clear he is NOT "pro abortion"-- whatever that means. Baldwin, on the other hand is clearly a "forced birther." He wants to forced continued pregnancies on women everywhere.

Here is an interesting website;

http://www.religioustolerance.org/abo_biblh.htm

"Numbers 5:12-31 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water..... This passage describes a ritual that a husband could force his wife to endure if he suspected that she had engaged in an adulterous relationship. He would take her and an offering of barely meal to the tabernacle, where the priest would make a magical drink consisting of holy water and sweepings from the tabernacle floor. He would have the woman drink the water while he recited a curse on her. The curse would state that her abdomen would swell and her thigh waste away if she had committed adultery. Otherwise, the curse would have no effect. If she were pregnant at this time, the curse would certainly induce an abortion. Yet nobody seems to have been concerned about the fate of any embryo or fetus that was present. There was no similar magical test that a woman could require her husband to take if she suspected him of adultery"

And after that
Numbers 31:17-18 Now, kill all the boys. And kill every women who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. This occurred at end of the genocidal campaign against the Midianites. Moses, presumably under orders from God, ordered the soldiers to kill every boy and non-virgin woman. Presumably, a significant percentage of the latter would be pregnant. So, their fetus was killed along with the mother-to-be. The female virgins would be spared, because they were considered to have significant value. The fetuses would be destroyed, presumably because they were perceived to have had no value.

So this "what the bible says" bullshit makes me sick. I once had a tee shirt made that said "Jesus would slap the Shit out of You. I gave it to my oldest daughter.

I think I'll get another one.

102. Another of those psychologicallly damaged "born-again" Christians
Who Is Christ for Us?

By Retired Bishop JOHN SHELBY SPONG - Taken from Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalism

My quarrel with fundamentalist and conservative Christians is not their right to believe as literally as they wish to believe. It is rather with their attempt to define Christianity so narrowly that only fundamentalists or conservatives can be included within the definition. It is their need to impose their truth on all Christians as the only truth that I resent. At this point biblical fundamentalism and the official position of the Roman Catholic church with its defined orthodoxy and papal claims to infallibility are remarkably similar, if not in form at least in intention. Both are, in my opinion, remarkably wrong and remarkably destructive to Christian truth and to a Christian future.

But who is Christ for us? How would we tell the Christ story if Jesus had been a reality of this contemporary period of human history? Surely it would not be in terms of the anthropomorphism of the first century. We do not envision God as a superhuman man who dwells beyond the sky. To talk of a Father God who has a divine-human son by a virgin woman is a mythology that our generation would never have created. and obviously, could not use. To speak of a Father God so enraged by human evil that he requires propitiation for our sins that we cannot pay and thus demands the death of the divine human son as a guilt offering is a ludicrous idea to our century. The sacrificial concept that focuses on the saving blood of Jesus that somehow washes me clean, so popular in evangelical and fundamentalist circles, is by and large repugnant to us today. This understanding of the divine-human relationship violates both our understanding of God and our knowledge of human life.

To see human life as fallen from a pristine and good creation necessitating a divine rescue by the God-man is not to understand the most elementary aspect of our evolutionary history. To view human life as depraved or victimized by original sin is to literalize a premodern anthropology and premodern psychology.

Yet historic Christianity has traditionally been understood in terms of these categories. Baptism to wash way the stain of Adam's sin in the newborn child is just one practice that emerges out of that understanding. To frighten parents into baptism by suggesting that their unbaptized infants might be damned to an eternity apart from God is insulting primarily to God. Who among us could worship such a deity? To traffic in guilt as the church has done, to take the beauty and life-giving quality of sexual love and distort it with layer after layer of sexual guilt is simply no longer defensible, if it ever was. Surely the experience of the Christ in this moment of history would not result in a use of these words and concepts to give rational form to the reality of that experience.

125. Independent my ass...
Edited on Sat Oct-25-08 03:29 PM by JohnnyRingo
I've had republican friends tell me this recently, but I just get a puzzled look from them when I ask who the last Democratic president was they voted for.
They can't say Clinton, because they'd be voting for Obama. They can't say Carter, because he was more liberal.

I usually then tell them that "if they weren't so lazy, they would have re-registered after they voted for Ross Perot"
Bingo...that usually brings about an admission they supported him, and wished he's won.

"Independent" my ass.

126. Get back on the short bus, stevie
He calls Obama a politician and in the very next breath says mclame is more American because he's been in the senate 24 years (actually mclame was elected in '86 so that is 22 years mr math challenged). That makes mclame, by my definition, a professional politician.

134. He is a such a moron...
24 years is plenty of time to pile up a questionable record, which McCrypt has. McCrypt will follow whatever group will take him or tolerate him. He has anger management issues, he looks down on women and numerous other things too.

I can not call McCrypt a hero, he got caught, then turned on the person who saved his life after he was caught. He was no Rambo, who was fighting his way out of the jungle and lived to tell the tale. McCypt fire bombed villages for fucks sake.

Just because he was captured, does not make him leader worthy. McCrypt has some left over hatred and revenge and does not need to be in any way at the helm and allowed to direct our military.

"a terrorist is someone who incites violence", like Shrub Co.? The bible is fiction and is not to be taken literally. Pro-Choice is not Pro-Abortion, it is a decision left to the women or couple involved to make the choice if they so choose, which can be for several different reasons. Obama is PRO-REALITY.

McCrypt is Pro-George Bush and has never strayed from his dark overlord, he voted with what ever shurb wanted to do, McCrypt is no Maverick. Back in the 80s, he was more centered, but in the early and late 90s, became a rethug asshole.

Stephen Baldwin, you looked stoned off your ass.

139. Yeah, there is "something else going on." It's called intelligence.
I know we're all unfamiliar with the concept after eight years of the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

that he made him prophets unto the nations... cuz he was talkin about a specific person, not everyone. and god can see past, present and future. so who cares when he knows us? he can know us a million years before we are conceived!
