on election day.
They need to create the impression that FALSE REGISTRATION is a big big problem. The Republican Bush administration fired DOJ attorneys who refused to take on trumped up cases against ACORN. They wanted to have some convictions on the books to wave around. The DOJ attorneys refused because the cases didn't have any real evidence, so the Republicans had to stir up publicity and make allegations without any cases.
This is all done to make it seem sensible when the Republicans position people at polling places in DEMOCRATIC PRECINCTS to challenge voter registrations, like they did in Ohio 2004. Position people just to check registrations. People pass right through or are given provisional ballots but that slows things down enough so that waiting in line takes hours and hours. Republicans hope more Democrats go home and can't wait that long so there will be fewer Democratic votes.
That's all that matters to the modern Republicans for whom ENDS JUSTIFY THE MEANS. Whatever helps McHate and Failin, that's what they will do.
THere are ten million more registered Democrats in the USA so Republicans undertake desperate measures to depress Democratic turnout.
FURTHERMORE-- flashy activities around voter registration are a distraction from electronic vote fraud, which also occurs but is a more complex issue that will take a bit more time to correct.
