Early Read on Early Voting, Could Reach 30%
Obama and McCain supporters voting early at about the same rate

by Frank Newport

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup Poll Daily tracking data indicate that about 11% of registered voters who plan to vote have already voted as of Wednesday night, with another 19% saying they plan to vote before Election Day. Roughly equal percentages of Barack Obama supporters and John McCain supporters have taken advantage of the early voting opportunity -- so far.

2. Very misleading
The same percentage of repubs and dems have voted, BUT, there are more democrats than republicans, so it means in terms of raw numbers, more dems have voted than repubs.

3. The key part:
"Obama has been ahead in Gallup Poll Daily tracking conducted while these data were being gathered. Thus, while equal percentages of Obama and McCain voters have voted early, there are more of the former than of the latter, meaning that early voting generally reflects the same Obama lead evident in the overall sample. Thus, if McCain gains rapidly in the days left, Obama benefits, since Obama can't lose votes he has already received. If McCain loses support rapidly, Obama will not have the chance to pick up even more support from those who have already voted."

6. Ack. What a misleading title that was... it makes perfect sense now that I read it.
Why is Gallup and AP so focused on making it seem that Obama and McCain are neck and neck?

8. They put up an eye catching headline
But you have to get into the meat of the article to see what the story is really saying. That's the same thing AP did with their article, because they know most media outlets will just copy and paste the headline AP provides without reading the details of the story.

9. More deceptive poll numbers from my own WRALTV in NC....
http://www.wral.com/news/local/politics/story/3814399/

Raleigh, N.C. — Republicans John McCain and Pat McCrory are edging ahead of their Democratic rivals among North Carolina voters in the presidential and gubernatorial races, according to a new WRAL News poll.

Polling firm Rasmussen Reports surveyed 700 likely voters statewide on Thursday and found North Carolina trending toward its Republican tradition. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

McCain erased the lead Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama held in recent WRAL News polls and now hold a 50 to 48 percent lead in the latest poll.

Where are they getting their numbers from I wonder...

Then they finish up with this:

McCain holds a 17-point lead among independents statewide, according to the poll. He also leads among male voters by a 59 to 39 percent margin, compared with Obama's 55 to 43 percent lead among women.

The economy remains the top concern among North Carolina voters – 43 percent of respondents listed it as the issue most likely to influence them at the polls – and the majority of those surveyed said McCain was better equipped to handle economic issues.

In the gubernatorial race, McCrory leads Democratic candidate Beverly Perdue by 51 to 47 percent, according to the poll.

McCrory holds a 20-point lead among male voters, compared with Perdue's 8-point margin among women. He also is backed by almost one-fifth of Democratic voters and a majority of independents, according to the poll.

I pisses me off because the completely ignore the facts and just make "stuff" up and provide little to no real information on exactly who they were polling.

sigh......
