Poll question: Poll: ****Official October Surprise?****
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 08:40 PM by chiefofclarinet
So, DU, we're 3/4 the way through October. And, we haven't seen the "October Surprise" yet. What do you think it will be?

3. I bet the Republicans hire some white woman to say Barack sexually harassed her
Wouldn't put it past them. Or they hire a white woman to claim he had an affair with her and fathered an illegitimate child.

6. The sad thing is that this might happen
And, it is so close to the election that it might hurt us. On the other hand, Obama would do a good job of refuting it.

12. That might actually work
After McCain successfully throws Dubya under the bus, he can go on the attack as the "mav-wreck." It's about as good as everything else that they've done, anyway.

26. Sorry...
...or not, actually. Anyways, * and Laura Bush have already voted for McKampf.

Washington, D.C. (AHN) - President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush cast early voting ballots from the White House on Friday for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

Bush cast his vote 11 days before election day, and despite heightened attacks from McCain, who is seeking to distance himself from the President's record low approval ratings.

Just one more nail in the McCain campaign. At the rate they're going, we're going to need a blacksmith to make new nails.

17. I hope not
It could happen, but it would have to happen on a multi-state level for it to actually make an impact. Not that I can't see the GOP doing that, but it would be a lot of work for a guy they don't like.

21. I'm not optimistic, but it looks good for us right now
Everything has backfired. Sarah Palin, of course, was a failure. The debates, especially the Town Hall and the VP one, were a massacre for Obama/Biden. And, Ashley Todd backfired badly.

I'm hoping that we get through this unscathed, but until the polls close in Hawaii, I will worry.

24. Yeah, rather than some significant ploy or maneuver ...
... it signifies the collapse of a campaign owing to its own ineptitude.

25. The other way to look at it is that WE had the October Surprise
We didn't fall apart in October, stayed on message, volleyed every dirt clod thrown at us, and built an even larger lead. I was optimistic, but I never thought that North Carolina and Indiana would be solidly blue and Georgia is a swing state.

27. Yeah; honestly, the financial collapse was the surprise event that determined the election.
Even with Palin's utter incompetence McCain might have been able to keep the election close enough to squeak it out (or steal it), but the financial crisis became a drag on McCain's campaign -- with both his erratic response ("fundamentals are strong", pseudo-suspension of campaign) and Palin's now obvious shallowness becoming multipliers in the shift of public opinion away from McCain and towards Obama.

32. We've already had them...
and they've blown up in McCain's face.

They may try to drag Rev. Wright back out, but that's old news and most people are sick of it. That'll just piss more people off and raise McCain's unfavorables.

I swear, whoever first compared the McCain campaign to Wile E. Coyote was dead on.
