GEORGIA GOING BLUE!! .... YYYEEEEE HAAAAA!
I can't even believe this, I was so shocked I thought I was hearing things incorrectly when I was listening to the 6pm news eating dinner tonight.

Obama is now polling +1% over McCain. Yesteraday he was polling 2 points below McCain and today, for the first time ever, Obama took a 1% lead!!!

Sorry, I had to post this ... I just can't even belive it.

(sometimes lifelong) hazes and into the light!!!! A homeless man at our church yesterday told them he was voting for a Democrat for the first time in his life!!! It is too bad we have to meltdown to almost toast before they come to their senses.

3. Georgian here: and I need confirmation
One poll does not make for a lead. Case in point: remember that crazy outlier that showed Obama up by like 8 in WV a few weeks ago?

Nothing would make me happier to see Obama win here in Georgia, but I just don't put a lot of stock in a single poll. Show me a few polls taken over a few days, and I'll buy it.

4. I'm suspicious of any poll by Insider Advantage...
...because Towery is a former Gingrich employee. He posts some screwy screeds on right wing sites, too.

That said, I believe what I'm seeing on car bumpers nowadays. Back in 2000 and 2004, I saw 10 W stickers for every Dem sticker, but now I'm seeing WAY more Obama stickers than McCain. I live W/NW of Atlanta, which used to be a very Republican area.

Most of the Republicans I know here are only weakly supporting McCain. They don't like him, and they don't believe he can win. If Romney had been the nominee, they would've been much more enthusiastic. I don't know a single one who has voted early, and if election day is rainy, I bet they'll just go on home from work instead of waiting around to vote.

The OTHER Republicans I know here are voting for Obama. :-)

Matt Towery was in the state House for a while - I don't recall why he left office, though.

BTW - I'm also in the same part of Metro Atlanta - howdy, neighbor! :hi:

5. Don't have proof, but today I voted in the rain, cold, wind for three hours.
And, the people voting along side me looked like the kind of crowd you would see at an Obama rally (AA's, youth, progressives). I saw very few McCain looking types.

8. Same here west of Atlanta last week.
My husband and I look like 30-somethings but are actually in our mid-40s. (He has a baby face.) I hope people in line thought we looked like Obama supporters. I really do! :-)

9. Waiting for "McCain pulls out of Georgia"
Actually, strategically speaking, he may need to really do that. To devote any resources to Georgia at this point would be to deny those dollars to the swing states he's counting on for a last minute save. He's down to just $25 million cash on hand at this point, so I don't think he can afford to shore up Georgia, too. He has to just stick to his plan and hope to beat the odds in ten different "swing" states all at the same time. I still think he'll pull off an upset in North Carolina (if you can call it that), but will concede when Obama takes Indiana & Missouri.

10. unbelievable. Is it just Atlanta? Where else in the state. I just drove
through the southwest corner and there were McPain/Palin signs EVERYWHERE. We thought
about getting a paint gun and hitting them- but it was just one country road and we
thought we'd be picked up immediately.

What percentage of GA is AA?

13. 30% AA. But in 2004 voting, AA's made up 25% of the vote in Georgia. So Obama should be able to get
more than that for sure.

14. Atlanta, Macon, Savannah, and Columbus.
Those are very heavily populated areas. My neighborhood W/NW of Atlanta is a formerly VERY Republican area, but you sure wouldn't know it this year.

18. Even if every registered voter in Alaska voted Obama/Biden -
Our electoral votes would go McCant/Failin, because the electors are bought and paid for by Exxon/Mobil, Conoco, et al.

Imagine my surprise when it turned out that Alaskans donated WAY more money to Obama than to the McCant machine. The article was in the Anchorage Daily News AND the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, a notoriously right-wing paper!

GEORGIA, :yourock: KEEP IT UP! Even against my SEC leanings, I'll say GO BULLDOGS! (My daughter is a 'Bama grad). This shows that when people get togther and TALK, regardless of die-hard opinion, even the most "faithful" GOP'er can learn!

I grew up in Decatur, one of the most liberal town in the entire American South.

Where were you guys? In the Metro Area?

Obama could pull if off but I'm more worried about the machines.

26. GA voted for Clinton in '92.
Ultimately, it's a moderate-to-slightly-red state.

FYI, I can't find a link to any new poll that shows Obama leading here. The link above takes me to the last poll I've seen--the one that says McCain leads by 2.

My county, Bibb (Macon is the county seat), almost always goes Democratic. In fact, the dynamic in GA is fairly typical. The urban areas go Democratic, while the rural areas go Republican. The suburbs swing, and right now the suburbs in GA seem evenly balanced between Obama and McCain. High turnout in the urban areas could make the difference.

30. This is so sad.
I mean it's awesome, but it's making me sad. I'm from Ohio but I moved to Atlanta a while back. Now I live abroad and I'm still registered in GA. I figured it wasn't really worth trying to get an absentee ballot that wouldn't be counted until after the election and in a state that would NEVER go blue. Now it may end up as close as Florida in 2000, and I've missed my chance to be part of history.
