Shout out to the Pittsburgh police department
Today I am feeling very appreciative of the professional work done by the Pittsburgh police department. If not for their good police work, the false story about a young white woman being assaulted by a vicious knife-wielding mutilating pro-Obama mugger would probably be all over the world today.

I just want to tell them that I appreciate their hard work, their good police work. Let's give a hand to the Pittsburgh police department.

2. I agree....I bet those detectives knew from the start this chick was a POS.....
I bet that had heard so much crap in their careers that they knew this story was bogus.

I bet they said the video showed nothing and she cracked.

4. They recognized that it was a suspicious story and they followed up.
The spokeswoman for the department said that they worked all night following up the case, even though they suspected it was bogus. They did good police work, and it stopped what could have been a really ugly thing.

36. I'm sure they knew from the start.
If it was obvious to a bunch of laypersons that her injuries were faked, it would certainly have been immediately apparent to experienced investigators.

3. We give the police a hard time around these parts (and rightfully so) but this is a good story
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 05:46 PM by TornadoTN
There are some fine men and women in law enforcement that believe in the ideals that they are sworn to uphold and they take their jobs seriously. Pittsburgh did a great job keeping their officers and task and not caught up in a political mess. Kudos to the fine men and women in Pittsburgh!

6. Police have an incredibly difficult job and they are paid very little in comparison
to the risk and dedication required. While idiots on Wall Street make millions destroying the country, cops work around the clock keeping people safe.

27. I agree. The few bad apples get all the press, but the majority are honorable
I'm a supporter of the police and I also support keeping them in check. We can do both.

I just fell out of my chair! Police being praised instead of ridiculed.

It's always the assholes who get the attention.

7. The Pittsburgh police department deserves attention and praise.
Not sure I understand your post. I never ridicule cops. I criticize them when criticism is warranted, but I also express appreciation when that is warranted, which is often.

19. High expectations?
You're right, expecting like minded liberal people to be fair minded might be a high expectation for you, but not I. Do you find it threatening to have someone who might disagree with you? How sad and insular.

It's weird that I when I turned on the computer today and saw the fallout, I wasn't surprised. I've never been so confident that a story was BS.

28. Yes DU Did!
When the local news channels and stations broke the story today that the ATM assault report was admittedly fabricated, I wasn't a bit surprised because I spent last evening with DU.

"Great job" to the DU Sleuths too!!!

BTW - I think this is the Pittsburgh Chief of Police:
