McCain Camp Didn't Push Todd's Hoax to National Press....stayed local
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 05:33 PM by maddezmom
The McCain campaign stayed local in its pushing of the Ashley Todd "Carved B" story. Two reporters I just spoke with who are traveling with the McCain campaign said they had not been told of the now-bogus assault story yesterday. A national reporter covering Obama hadn't received calls or emails from the McCain camp referencing Todd, and another national political reporter covering the campaigns also said he wasn't aware of the scandal and hadn't heard from McCain staffers peddling the bunk story. TPM's Greg Sargent wrote this afternoon that McCain Pennsylvania spokesperson Peter Feldman pushed local television outlets to cover Todd. So far there's been nothing to link McCain headquarters to the debunked attack.

So is this Peter Feldman still with the McCain campaign? If he is then it's linked to Headquarters in my book. :puke:

7. the point isn't that the National Media picked it up, the point is that this was probably done
localy in the begining and then after it hit the local TV.....McCain and Palin jumped on board without looking into it further and it went National. I think they believed it would be their October Surprise. :hi:

4. wait, so they do not deny pushing it to the local media. . .
did they not think by pushing it to the local media-it would eventually get to the national media.

Regardless, it was wrong to push a story before it was checked out.

9. No, I think they KNEW it would immediately get picked up by the national media.
They didn't have to call the networks. And having both candidates call poor little B-girl--and releasing a press release about it--didn't hurt, either.

13. Okay, maybe you're right
But I think the point is that the National Media didn't know about until it hit Drudge.

5. They are so screwn!
Not even a freeper could believe that excuse.

Does this make them criminally culpable for aiding and abetting?

11. No it doesn't
You have to know the story was false...besides this shit was only a misdemeanor. She won't see a day in jail. She'll get summoned to court, and deffer her sentence. If that

12. OF COURSE it was pushed nationally -- drudge "alert", McCain AND Palin personal calls to "victim"
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 05:59 PM by DemsUnited
This is just crazy McCain campaign spin to limit damage which, in my opinion, is less about a silly young woman looking for attention and more about the McCain campaign aggressively pushing an obviously suspect story to try & start a race war in one of their "must win" states.

It was just some dumb PA campaign workers...that's going to go over big. That was some impressive push in Pennsylvania, yessiree.

Not only do you have this fiasco, but Tom Ridge openly criticized the choice of Palin over him for VP. He said that this week. Great teamwork.

16. "McCain Pennsylvania spokesperson Peter Feldman"
"Communications Director Peter Feldman"

... let me get this straight - unless bad acts come solely and directly from the campaign's "national headquarters" then it cannot be linked or connected to the McCain campaign? Is this for real?

This person isn't part of the McCain campaign because he's based in PA? (or wasn't, if he's since been given the shaft).

Could this be more ludicrous? Or - if we want to work with this nonsense, then ACORN, Ayers, Wright, etc. cannot be linked to Obama's Campaign. If they want to play this game, then they should be called out on it in these terms. Either way, they implode. Or should.
