Honolulu Star Coverage of Obama Visit - No Public Appearances
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 01:32 PM by Median Democrat
Obama travels directly from his plane to his grandmother's bedside, spends more than hour with her on Thursday, and most of today with her. Also, note the comments on the story by crazy white wing nuts.

Democratic Sen. Barack Obama will focus his attention today on his ailing Honolulu grandmother after arriving last night on a detour from his pitched presidential campaign.

Obama, who arrived on his campaign aircraft around 7:20 p.m., immediately traveled under police escort to the Punahou-area apartment of his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who is reportedly gravely ill with cancer.

After an hourlong visit, the Hawaii-born senator left for the Hyatt Regency Waikiki.

He is expected to spend most of today with Dunham, 85, and has no public appearances planned.

Dunham, who along with her husband raised Obama for much of his youth, was released from a hospital last week. She reportedly broke her hip in a fall.

Obama expects to leave tonight and return to the campaign trail in Nevada tomorrow, with only 10 days left in the battle for the presidency against Republican Sen. John McCain.

4. Maika'i! Someone who knows what 'tutu' means!
for the rest of you: he's not taking ballet lessons! "Tutu" means "grandma" out here.

3. Note that most of the commenters are from the mainland
we have plenty of home-grown wingnuts who inhabit the S-B comment boards, by no means all of whom are haole (white), but today we're getting an influx of first-time readers from as far away as Mass. (I thought Mass. was done with wingnuts once Mittens skedalled. :eyes: )

5. I'm looking at all the people thinking the worst why he's there....
And I'm thinking "Bachi"

Been a long time since I lived in the islands, but I still believe in Bachi. (Well, that and Kikader was the most rocking show of the 70's......)
