I'm in biology -- my research is in ecology/conservation bio. I love it but i'm finding it hard to focus with the election looming so close! :rofl:

I should be finishing this spring, so i am just writing at this point, although i got to do some fun fieldwork earlier in the process. How long do you have to go?

18. History of Latin America...specifically indigenous

peoples of Mexico and political violence. Depressing stuff, actually, though my dissertation is sort of triumphant.

I am in Guadalajara, which is nice considering I don't have to listen to idiotic Oklahoma newscasters...I miss my husband though :) I will be back in the US at the end of January, to write, and should be wrapped up by next spring. Currently, I'm battling with my adviser as to when I can head home...I would like very much to go soon, and return to GDL.

But today is a no-work day. Theoretically, I should be writing grant proposals...but at the moment, watching Ashley Todd's downfall is entirely too exciting.

I wish i hung out with more humanities grad students -- usually all i hear about is science. Are you collecting data, doing interviews, etc in Guadalajara? Or are there other resources there that you need? I hope you get to go home soon!

Grant proposals, blech... always better to put those off for another day. ;)

26. Hah, right now I'm emailing my advisor...

gently trying to make the case for coming home in January. Bad enough that I'll miss my husband's 35th birthday by 2 weeks if I get home then. We will see.

I don't get to do interviews...well I suppose I could, but the period I'm writing about is 1850-1910...so, for the dissertation I won't. When I expand the project to a book, I probably will. Hopefully by then my Spanish will be much improved. ;)

And btw, humanities folks are big geeks. My friends and I (three historians, an archaeologist and an anthropologist) once had a two hour conversation, at a bar, about who the best president was. Really. We're so lame. I picked Kennedy, but I'm Irish Catholic, so I'm biased I guess...
