In campaign pause, Palin to testify on controversy

By MATT APUZZO and JIM SALTER
Associated Press Writers

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is testifying about a lingering personnel controversy that has distracted from her Republican vice presidential bid.

Alaska's personnel board is investigating whether Palin acted improperly by firing her public safety commissioner. The commissioner says he was dismissed for refusing to fire Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper.

An Alaska legislative investigation concluded that the firing was lawful but said Palin acted unethically by trying to get her brother-in-law fired.

Palin and her husband, Todd, will give separate depositions Friday in Missouri. It's her first testimony on the controversy. Attorney Thomas Van Flein says she's eager to tell her side of the story.

:eyes: Sure she is.

2. She's too inexperienced to be VP. A qualified candidate could ignore subpoenas indefinitely.
Take Cheney. What a pro!

4. Wrong board to testify with.
The Alaska Personnel board is the one that Palin WANTED to hand the investigation over to. It's packed with Palin appointees.

I'm sure she'll be "exonerated" by them.

However, the legislative investigation is still considering bringing formal charges against her.

Regards,

5. that was the original read however the board appears to have appointed
another independent minded investigator and some people think that this investigation could go further south than the legislative one.

6. I read that the investgator
the personal board appointed is some hard core trial lawyer who has donated to the democratic party in the past.

"But the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin's 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles."
