Anyone else watching this travesty of umpiring?

4. No...
The non=strikeout strikeout which just cost the Phillies a run (Rays Scored).

6. A run isn't going to matter tonight
but the missed balk call last night might have cost the Rays the game.

At best, a wash.

7. Pitchers get away with a lot...
but the ump rang the Ray up on strikes and then appealed it to the 1st base ump who ruled no swing...which it was.

At least it's not a real series. Phillies and Rays don't really count, do they?

10. So far this is the worst umpiring I've seen in a W.S.
All year long the umpiring has been terrible, but one would expect the better umps to be in the World Series. How are they chosen? By seniority? Lottery?

15. It was a bad call, but the Phillies have GOT to start hitting with guys on base
It's just ridiculous. They won't win the series unless they start driving in runs without homers. And this city needs this series.

...it is so infuriating to see bad calls determine the outcome of a game. (btw this Mets fan is cheering "Go Phillies!")

28. The home plate umpire has seemed pretty anti-Phillies the whole game
But I don't think it has cost them this game. If they could actually hit with guys on, I'd have an argument. The Phils seem flat and dejected tonight. I hope that changes in game three.

22. I thought the Phillies were McCain?
They are the old team that's been trying to win for as long as I can remember. The Rays are the new, fresh team for a new generation!

Umps always suck when your team is losing. They become miraculously fair when it is winning. Last night the umps sucked. Today they are okay.

As for juvenile, if any part of this thread seems more than juvenile to you, you are taking it way too seriously.

29. Nope, Phils haven't been in the WS since 1993
That's plenty Obama-like to me. I really do think the umpire has been biased, and I've never liked Danley. Just my opinion. I also think Philly needs a championship a lot more than Tampa does.

That said, if we can't hit, we'll lose fair ans square.

Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 10:39 PM by mvd
No four-team city has suffered this long, so yes, I say we need it more as a city.

I'm just going to agree to disagree with you about the game. I'm still upset about it (both the umpiring and the hitting,) so it's best we leave it at a disagreement. :hi:
