I work at a company that deals with media relations for various clients that look for money from government funding to get their programs in motion. We had a meeting with a client that deals with highway funding and I know he's a staunch Republican... actually more in the Barry Goldwater flavor than the recent neocon-theocratic variety.
We were talking about infrastructure funding and how they will get busier than in recent years and the client said this:
"When President Obama gets infrastructure funding passed, we're sure to get some of what we've been trying to do off the ground..." I was floored! The guy, who probably will still vote for McCain, was referring to Obama AS president AND how it was going to be good for him! I didn't rub it in about the possibility of Obama being president, but he knew I could have.
We'll see how all this goes in the next days, but that was indeed the first realistic reference to President Obama that I've heard other than with grassroots efforts where people are hoping it's the case. But to hear it as a REAL situation gave me goosebumps.
