49. They're not literal cankles. Kitten heels just make 'normal' ankles look massive.
It's why those sort of shoes should be worn by women with really skinny ankles. Or if you wear kitten heels cover up your ankle.

...but I know better than to wear those kinds of shoes and skirts that make my ankles look more "cankly." Thank gawd, I have VERY long legs and even at age 60 they are great except for the cankles. Very short skirts, dark colored, matching very high heels and same color nylons. Other than that? Pantsuits!

I don't care for the leather jacket, but her wardrobe is very nice. I think they did a good job on it. I bet we could get most of it as knock-offs for alot less than $150,000.

8. I love suit no.1. I hate the "beat it" Jacket & the kitten heels.
Kitten heels make all women's ankles look big, that's why you have to have extra skinny ankles to wear them and look "normal". I'm not feeling the debate suit, way too funeral, but her shoes for that night were cute. I sort of have a love hate relationship with the pink and gray gear.

However, you can get all of that at The Basement for 1/8th of the price she paid.

10. What's wrong with those suits?
I like most of those outfits. And I can understand them spending some money on new clothes for her, since I would guess things are more casual in Alaska and she probably did not have enough of the right kind of outfits for the campaign trail. But $150,000 seems like an obscene amount of money to spend on that stuff....you can get nice suits for $300 or less, and how many new suits did she need? If they had spent $10,000 I would say that seemed reasonable, but $150,000? Nice to see my tax dollars at work!

15. The tacky french pedicure.
OMG. I thought that was religated to gals in foot fetish videos. My Manicurist refuses to do it for that reason. I have never asked her why she knows so much about it, lol.

Sarah, next time you go on a shopping spree, you can get a few pieces from Neiman Marcus and Saks, but the basics, like pencil skirts and your regular staple pieces like shirts can be purchased at J. Crew. A good tailor can do wonders, sweetie. And boots in warm weather? Tacky. I am as partial to Manolo's as the next girl, but you need to know where to shop and what to spend money on. Clearly you are not requesting a discount, so you don't know who to talk to. Certain VIP's can get huge discounts at NM.

Spend, Baby, Spend.

I'd just seen her in those big boxy three-quarter-sleeve jackets (and I love a three-quarter sleeve, just not the boxy cut), and the primary colors.

I don't think it was necessary to spend that much money on those nice but hardly ground-breaking looks, but those clothes are much nicer than I realized. At least when she goes home to Alaska she'll have something to show for her trouble.

wildly over-priced and just as wildly sized. I also could once have dressed better for a whole lot less but we are in another era of ugly, ugly mass-market clothing aimed only at the juvenile and skinny. I am old enough that this is at least the 5th go-around in ugly, expensive, unwearable clothing. One interesting thing is that decades ago the observation was made that as goes the political climate so goes the hem-line and the fashion. Check out the clothing styles since the end of WWII.:woohoo:

Olympia Snowe is far more qualified to be VP than Governor Klondike Bar. And yet she's following her around looking bereft.

If that's not sexist I don't know what is.

That's not the problem, it's her crazy right wing views that are the problem.

Why all this emphasis on her clothing and physical appearance? It borders on sexism.

75. For me it's just about what's appropriate for the position. Just like
I have a really huge pet peave about cop shows on TV. The men are always appropriately dressed. But they have the women wearing REALLY low cut tops with a jacket thrown over, to pretend it's business attire.

If I could dress Palin, I'd have her in more simple outfits that allow her natural beauty to shine more than the clothes, rather than the other way around. That would also befit the seriousness of the position she's aspiring to.

84. OK,
but other than their high priced tag, I haven't seen her wear anything that I would deem inappropriate since she's been a VP candidate.

I do know what you mean about TV shows. The tops are always way too low cut and the skirts too tight and short.

91. The only one that I think is inappropriate is the first one. The red suit.
It's not low cut or anything, but I think it is a bit too form-fitting for the campaign trail.

Mostly I feel that way because they really needed to use the "dress for success" model. She needed to project gravitas to counter her lack of credentials and the pit bull role she has during her speeches. The shiny red jacket is another example of what I'm talking about. The cut is fine but it's too flashy and playful, given her speaking style which is already "playful."

I'm pretty glad, actually, because her outward appearance really does reflect the type of candidate she is. Just think if McCain's manner of dress were an outward manifestation of his personality and politics. That would be pretty amusing. Any ideas of what he'd wear?

To MANY, she is not attractive at all, and extremely masculine. Large square head, manly jawline, etc. Bias has nothing to do with it. Her facial features are not feminine.

She's simply NOT good looking, no matter how badly the RW and the media wants to perpetuate that myth in order to get people to pay attention to her.

140. Actually, most can see that she is generally not. A polished turd, so to speak.
Heavy makeup, huge hair, expensive, yet tacky clothes.

Underneath it all, she's a frumpy, middle aged mother of five who is painfully ordinary looking, and completely lacking in any character that would make her remotely interesting. If she were not shoved down our throats by the media, she wouldn't warrant a second glance in a crowd. She's "blah" on a good day, and looks like a garishly made-up tranny most other days. Her facial structure is extremely manly, and no amount of war-paint can soften that.

As for Hillary, I find her appearance much more palatable, actually. She is quite petite, and has a soft face with round cheeks and large eyes. She looks generally more pleasant and warm. Palin looks harsh, square, angular, and gaudy as hell.

I'm sorry that you are so compelled to defend her that you cannot let this drop.

It's a matter of opinion whether or not someone is attractive, and if you like her, fine, but all the argument in the world is not going to nullify what I see with my own eyes.

Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 11:34 AM by Vektor
There are over 100,000 people on this site besides me going on about her looks, as is most of the world.

Why, who knows? Like I said, if it weren't for the media constantly hyping her and trying to draw attention to her appearance, nobody would notice her.

Also, she deliberately wears short, tight skirts, thigh high stiletto boots, big hair, and tons of make-up which is quite inappropriate for a vice presidential candidate. That's no mistake - she wants to be seen and talked about, and that's a double edged sword. Some people might like her, but others will say she looks garish and is trying too hard.

You don't need to feel compelled to defend her - she is actively participating in egging on the attention, even the negative.

Also, if a male candidate was on the campaign trail wearing skin tight pants and a shirt unbuttoned to his navel, we'd all be making fun of him for looking like a damn fool, too. There's really no sexism involved.

Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 12:01 PM by Vektor
Some of the outfits are better than others. What might be "stylish" to go out on the town is possibly too much for campaigning for VP. The worst thing about her, I think, is that her make-up is just WAY too over the top, and why she does that big, puffy, helmet hair thing is beyond me.

Overall, what is most unsettling about her looks is that it really looks like she is trying too hard. You've seen the female impersonators who wear really large wigs and lots of makeup, and tight clothes. It's funny from a theatrical perspective, but when a woman running for VP sports that look, it just really is BAD. Why the big, stiff hair? Why the cosmetics applied with a leaden touch?

Truth be known, normally, I wouldn't even notice or care, but we are stuck looking at this rotten woman every time we go online or turn on the TV. Every time she commits a fashion felony, we are privy to it.

I just want her to go back to obscurity so we can have our country back.

118. She is an attractive woman with a great figure and she looks fine.
What comes out of her closet is not important.

What matters is what comes out of her mouth.

119. Funny how cheap she looks in all those expensive clothes.
That's why the $150K story came as such a surprise. Who would have guessed that it would cost so much to look like this?

And then, on the other hand, we have Michelle with her $100 dresses -- which look beautiful because SHE is the one wearing them.

123. That third picture looks like she's trying to pee standing up
:puke:

I could have spent a lot less and bought some other things I need more. LN46A550 Samsung Series 5 LN46A550 46 inch HDTV LCD TV and home theater, new Macbook Pro, renovations for my house just to name a few.

Never, EVER would I waste that kind of dough on CLOTHES!

129. Question for the Women
With the inflated price of women's clothing and wildly varying sizing (though I'm a man, I have two daughters--one teen, one early 20's), could you have found a professional ensemble for a fraction of the cost? I'm surprised amid all the "appearance discussion" no one stated the obvious. It's not the economic crash nor lack of experience with global issues which tarnish Gov. Palin, I've always found Democratic Women in all age groups, sizes and shapes are just naturally more intelligent and far more attractive than republican women!:kick:

137. Of course they could have found cheaper clothes.
They decided to go high end, that's all. The problem is not how much they spent, but that the RNC picked up the tab.

I have nothing personally against Palin and I think that she's a very attractive woman. My problem with her are her politics, not her looks or clothing.

142. Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Filene's Basement have designer clothes for a fraction of Neimans and Saks.
The high end stores also have off-price outlets (Off 5th, Neiman's Last Call, and Nordstrom Rack). And NYC has TONS of great stores with much lower prices on clothes like Century 21, Loehmann's, and Daffy's. Palin could have found great designer clothes for a fraction of the cost, especially in NYC.

131. i think the boots look better on her than the other shoes
i don't think her legs are that great and the boots kind of cover it up.

in those pics the only outfits i like are that red outfit with olympia snow and the black outfit she wore at the debate.

the rest is nothing special or kind of ugly, especially that 80s looking jacket.

132. I Guess She Could Have Just Gotten a Few Pantsuits ...
Except we all know what kind of criticism that would bring up. Been there, done that.

Professional women have to spend thousands of dollars a year on appearance, for image's sake alone. I can get away with picking through last year's leftovers at TJ Maxx. Palin, with the image Republicans are trying to project, can't.

And by the way - it's a fantastic wardrobe that most women, especially professional women of a certain age, would love to have.

148. Since when did the presidential campaign become a fashion show?
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 11:47 AM by quantessd
I want outfit #1 for myself. Love the red shoes, too. She looks great, except for the Michael Jackson Thriller jacket. Everything looks sharp, but she (the campaign) obviously paid way too much. Besides, she already looked lovely before the $150,000 wardrobe.

That $150,000 would have better spent on her brain. Money doesn't buy everything.

That's gross. The toenail should not even have the appearance of being grown out like that.
