Believe it or not I have absolutely no problem with the GOP spending $150,000 on Palin's wardrobe. Running for president or vice-president is about image and lets be honest one of the reasons Palin was selected was because she is an attractive woman (she is absolutely ugly human being but I do find her to be attractive).

A simple and obvious attack is to criticize the sheer size of her wardrobe budget but to me that is weak because it invites folks to question how much the Obama's spend, how much Bill Clinton and John Edwards spent on haircuts and what Hillary's wardrobe budget was.

To me the true attack point is the hypocrisy of it all. How the hell do you call Obama an elitist when we know what we know about Palin's wardrobe expenditures? How the hell do you tell me Obama, a man who owns one home, is out of touch when we still are disputing how many homes McCain has? Etc.

I'm not going to ask folks to think that $150,000 for 3 months worth of clothes is reasonable, however the size of the budget is secondary to the hypocrisy.

Also, as far a Mika questioning how much Obama spends on suits I think its important to point out that Obama acknowledges he is doing well financially and not trying to paint himself as some type of "Joe the plumber." He may spend a pretty penny on his suits but he is not trying to act like he doesn't.

I do love it that Michelle will also wear a dress from Target. Betcha Cindy McCain wouldn't.

You can dress decently for a whole lot less than $150,000. I think they intended to turn her into the thing of freeper wet dreams.

I wouldn't have a problem with just the clothes - I honestly have no idea what a wardrobe for something like an election would cost - but the kid carrying an obnoxiously expensive bag just shows how much they want to project the rich image.

9. The hypocrisy of the Republican Party is one of their most offensive issues.
Closeted gays write and support legislation that is discriminatory toward themselves.

Republicans condemn Bill Clinton for an affair, while they are doing even worse things at the very same time!

They point fingers and accuse Democrats of ethics violations, when the finger pointers are up to their armpits in unethical activities.

They say one thing, then do another, but only have a problem with that when a Democrat does the same thing.

They call Obama elitist, but they are really the elitists.

It's all bullshit, and the media should call them on it.

What she spent on clothes in 3 months is more than what some of her 'followers' make in 3 years. How can she say that she's one of them if she doesn't dress like them, shop like them? Maybe I'm just jealous not one asked me to be vp. I could use a new wardrobe.

27. I don't have a problem with all of this.
The money came from donations.
It's all part of campaigning.
You gotta look good up there, and a woman candidate especially has to think in those terms.
I'm sure the Obama campaign has spent that much for Barack and Joe, Michelle and Jill.
I expect our candidates and their families to look good, and they all look fabulous, and I expect our donations to pay for it.
I understand about the hypocrisy, but I just can't get worked up about it all.
It's part of the game.

Don't allow this latest distraction to suck up more than a few minutes of your time.
It's just not worth it..

The people who donated the money. Imagine you're a $10-an-hour worker who didn't buy a new sweater at the WalMart so you could help get a "good Christian hockey mom" elected -- and she blew it all on designer clothes for her husband and kids.

I'd be a little pissed.

the Obamas would go on a 150K shopping spree paid for by the DNC. Big diff.

What do they think the Palins are--Royalty?!? Talk about putting lipstick on a pig!

I HATE that running for the highest offices in this country is "all about image." We are (collectively) a very shallow people.

It DOES matter to me what they spend on their stuff. --eg. I like John Edwards but his house is a monumental extravagance on a par with the (13 bathroomed) McDuck mansion they are trying to offload in Arizona. I will say that it was an obstacle for me in supporting John.

I don't care about haircuts and makeovers--Laura spent $700 on one in NYC and it never made the news, but John's sure did. Massages and makeovers qualify as psychotherapy. Given what we put these people through to get elected, I don't begrudge them that. In this godforsaken consumer culture you could argue that shopping is ALSO psychotherapy (is that why Condi was out shoe-buying during Katrina aftermath?) ---but sorry I don't buy that shopping works as psychotherapy. It's not a healthy pursuit in excess. Leads to neurotic object worship and shopaholicism. It's negative behavior if it goes beyond justifiable need (entertainment being included as a need, to a point).

Yes, it's the hypocrisy but more than that, in this recession it is the INSENSITIVITY. At least it shows them for what they are--narcissist, insecure, petty bureaucrats who think they are special and royal...and they must have their fortresses against the world like Hollywood celebrities. Yech.

They party while Rome burns. :nuke:

It's not bad enough that she's got that whole "hockey mom" thing going on but then to hold oneself out as the person whose going to reform Washington, cut pork, etc. and then go out and spend 150K in pork (donated money/tax payer money) to buy this wardrobe is ridiculous. What's even worse is it wasn't just for her but her whole brood. If elected can we see her doing this every three months for a family of 7? So at the end of 4 years she'd charge the tax payer $2.4 million for clothes?

50. Don't agree here. The shopping was a BONUS, not campaign related.
I frankly think it's like all those trips she took on the Alaskan dime. That woman knows how to work the system to get goodies.. and she's still the same old trashy person she's always been. She bilks Alaska for a week long trip with Bristol to NYC to attend a 5 hour conference. Trust me, I think the shopping sprees were a gift to her. They could have reasonably outfitted her with a few decent suits from Macys. This Saks 5th Ave and Neimann Marcus stuff is way over the top...

it's the hypocrisy of trying to sell her as an every-woman. While wearing outfits that cost more than most people's cars.

Michelle was stunning on the View, wearing a $200.00 dress.
