10. I love that the kid is all dressed up
I can just imagine him in his house that morning, going through his clothes and trying to figure out what would make the best impression. The excitement he must have felt, making sure his tie was right, his pin was just so standing in front of the mirror. And then to top it all off, he got to meet Barack! I wish I weren't so jaded by life that I could have that kind of excitement and look of hope on my face. What a moment for him.

38. What a beautiful child.
These children are going to grow up feeling differently about themselves than the children of previous generations. Girls and boys of every color and background are going to believe that there's nothing they can't do.

This is America's promise being fulfilled.

40. My eyes are tearing up looking at these pictures.
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 07:42 PM by CarolinaPeridot
A year ago I thought it would take 50 years to see this happen... and now its almost two weeks away. I am feeling more and more emotional as the days go by. I think about my nana who would have been 105 had she still lived on, born the daughter of sharecroppers. She was the maid up until the early 1980s for a wealthy family, a job that thank God none of us have to do. My cousins, little brother and I can rule the world, we can have anything we want despite the color of our skin. Nothing can hold us back. I sometimes wonder what she would think of my cousins, my brother and I and the world that we live in. I wonder what she would say if she could see the news now ...  I'm voting for Obama and I will be thinking about my Nana when I do it.

Our entire family is going to vote together...

41. I'm white and I grew up knowing that I could someday become President...
It took these pictures to make me realize that for the first time in our history, millions of minority children for the first time can share that dream. Just think how Obama has given that young man hope.

Thanks for the pics. Also check out this thread from earlier today.

53. One thing I've always found annoying on DU is all the posts that...
have subject lines that say something like, "I am crying buckets as I'm reading this." It just gets to me.
Well, this stone statue melted looking at the pictures in this thread. It frightens me sometimes to think what this election might mean.

55. Yeah, Wow is right
This pic made me feel so intensely grateful for what is happening with this campaign and how it is impacting our country. I still have a lump in my throat and chills periodically running down my back when I peek back up and look at that child's face. Is this what healing looks like? I am invested emotionally in this campaign so much it almost hurts sometimes the way love does. It just means so much and feels so right. Ok so I am gushing a bit, but damn it, doesn't it just feed your soul a bit every day?
