This Stalinist Powell consensus mongering is an unattractive neurosis

Colin Powell is today's Trotsky... a figure to be cut out of old photographs, then cut back into old photographs.

Not one single person on Earth will vote based on whether anyone at DU likes or dislikes Colin Powell.

The rehabilitation efforts here are just neurotic... a cynical attempt to sublimate individual thought for no purpose other than consensus itself.

It is 100% irrelevant whether Powell is a great guy, or has been redeemed, or any of this nonsense.

It's a great endorsement for Obama/Biden because it will net votes, so that's what that is. Hooray. More votes is better than less votes.

Anyone arguing that Obama should reject the endorsement is nuts.

But anyone arguing that individual DUers should embrace the endorsement is double-nuts because some DUer changing her mind about Powell's general worth doesn't result in a single net vote for Obama/Biden which is the only point of an endorsement in the first place.

Telling DUers that black is white and 2+2=5 doesn't help Obama win anything. If it did then it would be fine... practicality is an indispensable virtue in almost all things. but since it has no impact whatsoever on the election it's a sinister neurotic tic... a desire (or demand) for unanimity to advance some bizarre Manichean world-view where the totality of human beings is reducible to who they plan to vote for in 2008.
