Obama on Powell
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 03:13 PM by ProSense
Before we begin, I’d like to acknowledge some news we learned this morning. With so many brave men and women from Fayetteville serving in our military, this is a city and a state that knows something about great soldiers. And this morning, a great soldier, a great statesman, and a great American has endorsed our campaign to change America. I have been honored to have the benefit of his wisdom and counsel from time to time over the last few years, but today, I am beyond honored and deeply humbled to have the support of General Colin Powell.

General Powell has defended this nation bravely, and he has embodied our highest ideals through his long and distinguished public service. He and his wife Alma have inspired millions of young people to serve their communities and their country through their tireless commitment and trailblazing American story. And he knows, as we do, that this is a moment where we all need to come together as one nation – young and old, rich and poor, black and white, Republican and Democrat.

1. Evidently Obama does not share the opinion of many here at DU
who hate Powell and cannot forgive him and consider him to be a despicable liar and stooge who has no honor. Fortunately, Obama is way smarter than most people here and has a better spirit within him than many. Hatred and unforgiveness do not take you far in life or make your life better.

2. ding ding ding..
Are we the party that looks forward into the future with an eye for forgivness, or back to the past to point fingers and asses blame. I'd prefer to be part of the first party.

9. You are right imo! We need Obama to win and I don't give a damn who supports him in the process!
Obama has more wisdom in dealing with this issue than does the average DU poster! If we squabble over things like this, we may win the battle - yet lose the war! Let it be!

12. oh, yeah, powell has made so many lives better.
all you can do is insult people who don't want criminals, or abettors of criminals, or glossers-over of criminals.

You're wrong on this but you won't know it until the next war.

5. Forgiveness is a step in the right direction.
It is the hardest thing to do. And the most gratifying and important. Anything else is going backward. Is a step toward war.

No one feels good about what has happened. But Obama is big, and he is serving us as an example of what we can be. We can do it.

I find this to be a new way of being in America. We can do it.

7. Obama set that up well being
in the military city of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

And, then he went on to give one hellava speech to all his supporters!
