18. Pecan - with three scoops of good vanilla ice cream.
Ideally, the scoops would be from three successively colder tubs of the ice cream, so they would soften to the perfect consistency as the piece of pie is consumed.

Honestly, it's almost as hard as getting the right milk/cereal proportions and consistency when eating Cap'n Crunch.

29. "PIE" is code for "FUCK YOU McCAIN" no doubt about this, folks.
Taking it a step beyond, "I'm not going to dignify bullshit hate speech by responding to it", Barack is saying, "Fuck you, John, we're gonna talk a little bit about PIE, and then the economy and making America a better place."

Come on over for a slice!

36. Lemon Meringue Pie is the only thing I know how to cook....
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 01:20 PM by Clio the Leo
... for some reason, my mother taught me how to make it when I was seven and then never taught me anything else! lol

Here's the recipe....

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/magic-lemon-pie-from-eagle-brand/Detail.aspx

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
1 (8-inch) crumb or baked pie shell
1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1/2 cup lemon juice from concentrate
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
2 eggs, separated
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar, if desired
4 tablespoons sugar

DIRECTIONS
In mixing bowl, combine EAGLE BRAND®, lemon juice, lemon rind or extract, and egg yolks; stir until mixture thickens. Pour into chilled crumb crust or cooled pastry shell.
Add cream of tartar to egg whites; beat until almost stiff enough to hold a peak. Add sugar gradually, beating until stiff and glossy but not dry. Pile lightly on pie filling.
Bake 325 degrees F. until meringue is lightly browned. Cool.

I think I'll have to make one in sixteen days.

Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 01:42 PM by RichGirl

http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=inqd00PuNqQ

When the world is gray and bleak
Baby don't you cry
I will give you every bit of love that is in my heart
I will bake it up… into a simple little pie

Baby don't you cry gonna make a pie
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle
Baby don’t be blue
Gonna make for you
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle
Gonna be a pie from the heaven above
Gonna be filled with strawberry love

Baby don’t you cry
Gonna make a pie
Hold you forever in the middle of my heart.

Baby heres the sun
Baby heres the sky
Baby I’m the light and I’m your shelter
Baby you are mine
I could freeze the time

Keep you in my kitchen with me forever
Gonna be a pie from the heaven above
Gonna be filled with strawberry love

Baby don’t you cry
Gonna make a pie
Hold you forever in the middle of my heart.

Gonna bake a pie from the heaven above
Gonna be filled with butterscotch love

Gonna be a pie from the heaven above
Gonna be filled with banana cream love

Baby don’t you cry
Gonna make a pie

59. I think "pie" is an inside joke in the campaign.
It's a joke they are playing on the media, and I'm sure it has a special meaning. They want to see how many times Barack can say the word pie in a bit and for how long before the media catches on... That doesn't mean that Barack doesn't love pie (who the hell doesn't LOVE pie?), but he is giggling inside when he tells the the bit because he knows the inside joke.

(Another vague possiblity is that most polls on DKos have a final option of "pie" (similar inside-joke weirdness to kitty threads on DU)

INGREDIENTS

1 9" unbaked pie crust
2 cups cooked and mashed sweet potatoes, strings removed
2 tablespoon butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cups sugar
1/3 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tablspoon bourbon (optional)
1 unbaked pie shell
For Garnish:
2 cups freshly whipped cream
1 cup pecans, toasted and chopped
Maple syrup to drizzle
STEPS

Preheat oven for 450 degrees F. Prick pie shell with fork and bake for 10 minutes before filling. In a large bowl, combine potatoes, butter, vanilla, sugar, salt, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, heavy cream and bourbon. Mix well with an electric hand mixer until all ingredients are smooth. Remove any strings from the potatoes as you are mixing. Pour the filling into the precooked pie shell and bake for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and continue cooking for 35 minutes or until a fork inserted in the middle comes out clean.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

Serve warm, room temperature or chilled with a dollop of freshly whipped cream, a sprinkle of pecans, and a drizzle of maple syrup

No I've never made it but I might for election night!

64. Three little freepers, They lost their leaders, And they began to cry,
Oh, mother dear,
We sadly fear
Our leaders we have lost.
What! Lost your leaders,
You naughty freepers!
Then you shall have no pie.
Mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow.
You shall have no pie...

Everyone put pie on your dinner list for Nov 4th!

66. Error! Already recommended.
I'm making sweet potato pie the day before election day because I want to have some when I get home from working the polls on THE DAY BARACK OBAMA IS ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! After 16 hours or so, some sweet potato pie ought to taste mighty good. :dem:

Although it is hard to pick just one. My wife's baking was one of the big reasons I married her. None of that Mrs. Smith's garbage for me! And none of that store-bought crust, either!

86. I'm making pie right now---
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 12:21 PM by pacoyogi
I found two cans of veggies from last year--one pumpkin, one sweet potato. So I mixed them, threw in a can of sweetened condensed milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, and three whipped eggs.

Poured it into a pie shell made of Graham crackers, and topped it with oatmeal struesel (could NOT find the damn pecans...)

I'll let you all know how it comes out...

100. from the movie Waitress
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 12:54 PM by GinaMaria
Great film btw. The director/writer, Adrienne Shelly, wrote a lullaby for the movie. Here are the lyrics

Baby don't you cry, gonna make a pie, gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle. Baby don't be blue, gonna make for you, gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle. Gonna make a pie from heaven above, gonna be filled with strawberry love. Baby don't you cry, gonna make a pie, and hold you forever in the middle of my heart.

Here's info on the film: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waitress_(film)

On a sad note, she was murdered and left behind a little girl who is also in the movie.

101. "Saddle me up a BIG WHITE MOOSE, tie me on, and TURN HER LOOSE....
...OH, me oh MY... well I LOVE THAT COUNTRY PIE." Robert Zimmerman

sorry... that song's in my head now

disclaimer: (read at high speed) All inferences to Governor Sarah Palin are strictly coincidental and the author of this posting denies any intention to equate the sexual innuendo of Mr. Zimmerman's song with electoral dominion over the Republican Party by any and all Democratic Candidates in the upcoming General Election.
