Haven't seen it, but, by all accounts, he went very far, even mocking McCain for calling Obama a "socialist" for "daring" to look at the tax structure.

He eviscerated the Palin choice.

He spoke of Obama's transformational abilities.

He talked of a diverse America where Muslims die for their country.

This is a great moment, not just for getting Obama elected, but for helping him govern once he gets there.

Thank you, Colin Powell.

1. It's HUGE. Not just the endorsement, but the things he said doing so.
Just WOW!!

He hit a grand slam.

2. I guess I missed it??
Thought this was to come out on MTP. Did he announce somewhere else? (well, other than on DU) :)

6. He did it on MTP which has already aired in some areas.
It hasn't aired yet in my area. Check your listings to see when it airs for you.

He also did it in a live press conference right after he left the MTP studio. I saw that one, and it was definitely a grand slam. I'm looking forward to watching MTP at 10:30.

3. Yes, we need to look at the BIG PICTURE here and not be bitter. Powell has just single-
handedly KILLED the traitor/treason/terrorist/Ayers memes. The importance of this cannot be measured right now.

10. I applaud what he said. He countered several VERY dangerous....
smears going around the last few weeks. Even countered the most recent "socialist" meme before he can take hold (for all but the McPalin base, that is).

I, for one, am grateful that he had the courage to stand up NOW. His actions TODAY are worthy of gratitude, IMHO.

11. You'd probably say the same thing if bush and cheney endorsed Obama
and denounced the mcfailin campaign.

12. Bush and Cheney don't have a 80% approval rating among Independent voters

Think strategically for once and put away your purity test.

19. I agree, regardless of what people think of Powell
his endorsement trumps the argument of Obama not having enough experience.

20. I doubt his endorsement will affect many people's votes, BUT
it will dominate news cycles in a positive way for Obama. And really, thats all Obama needs. He is ahead and just needs to hold his lead. Positive news dominating news cycles will allow him to hold his lead even if the news itself doesnt sway a large number of people.
