Thank you Secretary Powell.

You have just (at least partially (with respect to many of my fellow DUers)) atoned for your sins.

1. Not completely, but it is a step on the road to redemption.
he's been too much the 'good soldier' throughout his life. It must've been hard for him to confront that and speak out.
I give him credit for that much.

stupid American public. If HE endorses Obama, then it's OK.

Doesn't anyone else get it? It's like Nixon to China...for crying out loud, it took Bush Jr., Powell, a sickening war, Katrina, to (self) DESTROY the republicans. It was its own kind of war with lots of attrition.

And we won it.

8. I meant in reference to the 'redeeming'
I don't think it possible to redeem yourself for his part in the Iraq war. Maybe, but a single endorsement surely isn't the way.

9. With all sincere respect:
I understood your post. My point is: Powell was also the point man for the Army in the My Lai massacre scandal...he has a lot to atone for...but if his endorsement helps rid us of this malignancy, put the nail in the coffin, then I'm willing to say that he paid the price. He usre as hell won't be invited to any more of those GOP 40000 dollar dinner speaking engagements.

Maybe it works for you, but it doesn't for me. He's got a lot of work to do to redeem in my eyes.

5. It's a step. It takes a lot to atone for deceiving America and the world into Iraq.

That's something.

12. I do believe in forgiveness
and if he hasn't completely erased his sins, he has still shown remorse and has tried to do good.
