Obama wins backing from three major newspapers
Source: CNN

(CNN) — Barack Obama scored three high-profile newspaper endorsements Friday, including two from papers that have never endorsed a Democratic presidential candidate before.

The Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and The Washington Post all praised Obama's handling of the grueling presidential campaign and the historical nature of his candidacy as the first black to be the nominee for a major political party. It's the first time either the Times or the Tribune, Obama's historically conservative hometown newspaper, has endorsed a Democrat for the White House.

"The excitement of Obama's early campaign was amplified by that newness," wrote the Times, which hasn't endorsed a presidential candidate since 1972. "But as the presidential race draws to its conclusion, it is Obama's character and temperament that come to the fore. It is his steadiness. His maturity. These are qualities American leadership has sorely lacked for close to a decade."

"We have tremendous confidence in his intellectual rigor, his moral compass and his ability to make sound, thoughtful, careful decisions. He is ready," wrote the Tribune, originally led by founding members of the Republican Party. "The change that Obama talks about so much is not simply a change in this policy or that one. It is not fundamentally about lobbyists or Washington insiders. Obama envisions a change in the way we deal with one another in politics and government.

1. Endorsements are coming in like crazy.
He isn't just getting the undecided - he's getting people to switch over. McCain WISHES he could get somebody to switch.

2. And Bob Dylan
Who, despite his political song writing and activist persona, has never before endorsed a presidential candidate.

10. It was a Yahoo News photo that I Photoshopped...
I didn't crop it. I enlarged it a bit to the size you see here and the rest is my "Secret Photoshop Formula."

Glad you like it, and thank you for your kind comments. It is my "picture is worth 1000 words" statement on the Obama-Biden campaign.

12. Do you know if it appeared on another blog or website?
I swear I have been searching the archives of a zillion sites I frequent trying to find it... I might have first seen it when you posted it here, but I had it in my mind it was elsewhere.... Might you have shared it with another site?

Great work, though!

13. I got the original unretouched photo straight from the "Photos" section of Yahoo News...
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 06:40 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
...I thought I might have saved the source file, but I didn't. Looks like I right-clicked and selected "copy image," the pasted it into Photoshop, enlarged it, processed it (the color and "painted" effects), and uploaded it to Photobucket. I've only posted it on DU and this is the only version I've posted. It's always possible that someone linked to it and posted it elsewhere, but that someone wasn't me.

I'd bet someone snared it and linked to your work... Kudos on your efforts...

So, you can make a photo appear to be an oil painting in PHotoShop? I've got to splurge on that softwae one of these days... So, cool.

15. "Secret Formula"...
...it's a combo of about six filters, some native to Photoshop, others plug-ins, and a whole lot of layer adjustments. There isn't a single program you can buy that will create the effect. You basically have to be me.

6. Add the Denver Post to the list...
Post editorial board endorses Obama

The Denver Post's editorial board today has endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president.

The Post thinks Obama is "better equipped to lead America back to a prosperous future."

"In unsteady times, it may seem obvious to gravitate toward the veteran politician, but in this campaign, it's been the newcomer who has had the steady hand," The Post said in its endorsement.

7. Alright! I discontinued my subscription after DP endorsed GWB

in 2004-- at the demand of their publisher, who also published LAT--and despite months of pro-Kerry editorials. I was furious. Now that LAT has gone for Obama, I guess the strong arm tactics on DP have been set aside.

Thanks for that!

17. I discontinued the Denver Post then, too. And wrote them a pointed
email, too. I even got a response from the guy who runs the news desk. He tried his best to convince me that the actual reporters were doing their best to report the facts. And I told him it didn't make any difference as long as Singleton was controlling what was put in the paper.
