On "pre-existing conditions" under McCain health plan.
I just did a little research at the McCain website and have to say that I'm less than impressed with their explanation and assurances that the uninsured or underinsured will be covered for any pre-existing health conditions. Here's what they say;

"As President, John McCain Would Work With Governors To Find The Solutions Necessary To Ensure Those With Pre-Existing Conditions Are Able To Easily Access Care."

OK, "will work with governors" is no assurance whatsoever. Why should it be up to the governors on a state-by-state basis, anyway? That's sort of a "trust me, we'll look at it later" kind of weasel statement. At least that's the way I see it. What about you?

Again, I must insist that the public be told the truth about this. We're talking about a key element of any health insurance plan. If your family, like mine, has serious chronic, longterm health problems, how a health insurance provider handles pre-conditions couldn't be more important.

We need to find a way to deal with this as a society.

4. trojan horse
States regulate the insurance industry and his plan is to take it away from the states therefore doing away with regulations that protect the consumer.
As someone said, the ins cos would make their headquareters in states that have the least regulation and that is how the person would be covered no matter which state they lived in.

You are right - people are just not getting this - it is a giant gift to the insurance companies.

6. Yes, it is. I just went to his site for the first time
to read about this and confirm what another DUer wrote yesterday - the "refundable tax credit" will be sent directly to the insurance company. If you have any credit left over, it will be deposited in a Health Savings Account. The concept of leftover money is a joke since the plan is to give you $5000 for a family and decent coverage (not "Cadillac" ) today for a family costs $15,000 a year in CT - at group rates !

And good luck getting that "tax credit" back from the insurance company if you don't need coverage later in the year. And what do you do if you start out as single and get married later in the year? How are you going to pay for the spouse's coverage ?

As Barack says, its the ownership society - you're on your own !

5. .
"To Ensure Those With Pre-Existing Conditions Are Able To Easily Access Care."

Sounds like their old emergency room strategy again.

Once people are cherry-picked out of health plans, that will be all that's left for them.

people that they plan to pay for this travesty by cutting Medicare and Medicaid spending.

I think we all need to write LTTE's of our local papers and make sure the uncommited and uninformed voters are aware of this.
