The October Plan: Is This What Obama Has Been Planning All Along?
So we're in that phase of the campaign that we all knew was coming. As soon as the last debate ended, the McCain/Republican sleaze machine went into high gear. I've been thinking about this for weeks which means the Obama campaign has been thinking about it for months.

But what's their counter-move? My gut told me that Obama wouldn't go super-negative because that's not who he is. And McCaskill just confirmed that again on Rachel's show last night. But I don't think Obama and team would just try to ride this out until election day.

Did Obama and team come up with an October Endorsement plan?

A series of endorsements from huge American public figures that are so giant, they will get big press, drowning out the "he's too scary, he's not ready, he's un-American" memes?

I think it makes alot of sense.

Powell would be the first on this list, if it's been planned.

Are there any other big name iconic public figures who haven't officially endorsed yet?

Chuck Hagel.

Who else?

2. I was just wondering if Powell could be Obama's October surprise.
That would be cool, eh?

3. Condi?
I've heard the rumor. Ok, it was one guy on the internets. And I told him he was crazy.

Still...

4. Condi has absolutely been pushing a pro-Obama agenda within the Bush admin.
There have been too many examples of her working Bush into positions that mirror Obama's.

I doubt she'd endorse but I'd laugh like hell if she did.

7. I think that an endorsement from Condi
would actually be more likely than an endorsement from Powell. Robert Gates would probably endorse Obama if he could as well.

10. Realistically, she'd have to quit first.
I don't think it'd be appropriate for a sitting Secretary of State to endorse the other party's candidate. (I'm having one of those "FAIRNESS MAN--SUPERHERO!" moments where I'm trying to think how I'd feel if I were in their shoes.)

5. Powell? Does he really have any credibility left?
Seriously.

Powell was the counter-voice to Cheney, Rummy, Wolfowitz(sp?), etc. in the administration right up until lying to the U.N. I even remember the Time or Newsweek cover story in the week or two prior to 9/11 about Powell calling him the "odd man out" or something like that, about how he was encountering so much difficulty within the administration because he did not share the same views as Cheney, Rummy, etc.

But he did lie to the U.N., which led to the invasion, occupation, loss of life, severe weakening of our military, severe weakening of our defense, loss of world standing, huge war debt (which has yet to show up on our and our children's tax bills), etc.

He could have taken that moment to take a stand and publicly said, "No. I will not lie to the U.N. about this." But he did not. He folded and became another Bush-Cheney yes-man.

Sorry, Powell's endorsement - for all it would have been worth right up until he made that speech to the U.N. - is worthless now to many of us. And insulting.

8. I'm thinking Hagel soon. He might as well. His wife endorsed.
I'm hoping for Powell (even though I have no respect for him at this point). It would be a huge endorsement. I know he gave money to McCain during the primary season. But, if he has any integrity left, he would endorse Obama because he knows McCain is no good for this country. Then again, he's a "good soldier". So, I'm not holding my breath.

9. I was wondering if Obama had an endorsement strategy a la the primaries
where he very skillfully rolled out the endorsements over the course of the election.

I do not think Powell will necessarily endorse but if it does happen, Obama planned it.
