I've seen way too many threads this morning about the polls tightening. OF COURSE THEY ARE!
Let's think this through, in detail.
1. Obama has won all 3 of the Presidential Debate's. Biden knocked Sarah silly in the VP Debate. 2. Obama is polling incredibly well in state polls, expanding the Kerry states from '04.
So, why is it so close nationally?
Obama is competing very well in states that he has no business being in (or so we thought, before he started dominating). Places like West Virginia, Georgia, North Dakota, Kentucky, Indiana, Montana even. He's polling well in states like that, on top of winning Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri, New Mexico, Iowa, Nevada...
So what does this mean for national polls? Well, they're coming back down to show a tightening race ONLY because McCain is shoring up his support in red states that are being threatened. Check out the state polling in battleground states and you can see that Obama's electoral map isn't getting any closer. In fact, if its moving in any direction, its going to Obama.
All that is happening is McCain improving in states he's been forced to defend. Forget the National polls...thats not how we're going to win.
