Where Will You Go?
October 17 2008 | Niuhuru

Posted on Friday, October 17, 2008 8:49:41 AM by Niuhuru

If Obama wins and you plan on fleeing the country, where will you go?

I myself have thought of Thailand or preferably somewhere warm. What do you guys think about Argentina?

is traitorous and un-American.

I often wondered if they felt that way during Bill Clinton's presidency.

65. I'd go, but there's a difference
I would go somewhere where I speak the language -- it helps to know more than one. I'm guessing that most of these blowhards barely know English. I would go somewhere where I would fit in with the culture and political leaning -- which is going to be hard for freepers. What are they going to do in a "socialist" country -- which, by their definition, is most of Europe, Canada, and other places? I would also be able to work from wherever I go, as I support myself working by the Internet. They would be unemployed and probably unemployable, which means no visa and means they would be illegal immigrants. HA

I don't have any qualms about leaving -- 100 years ago, my grandparents looked around at where they were and said "This really sucks and it's getting worse." They left, came to the US, and it worked out really well for them.

If McInsane and Secession Sally get in, I'd really consider going somewhere else.

That they are surrounded by "liberals" and "leftists" as 90% of the world's population is to the left of them.

They are the Americans that everyone hates...not us.

Maybe they can go to a place that shares their view of a church state and strong religious "values": Iran...OK they'll have to convert but the devil's in the details.

I was in the locker room of the gym today and one Republican lady says to another how great John was at that dinner last night. So funny! (:puke:) The other lady responded that it is nice that in this country, the opposing candidates can get together and poke fun at themselves and the other. "In any other country, they'd get shot for doing that."

Any other country? Stupid lady is totally ignorant to say that.

Not really any longer. Post their collapse during the late 90s and early 21st Century, the nation has taken a turn toward a Communist set up and 90% of farmers and more hate all things dealing around goverment. It just doesn't fit Repubs to do to a country that way, which is in fact promoting worker's Communism. Capitalism is dieing if not dead in that country and these idiots think it's safe. Good luck to them.

OTOH, the Czech Republic is one of the most atheistic nations in Europe. I don't think the Freepers would like that much. I did, but I am in fact an atheist.

That and the damned rationality of the place...

I went to Prague in June. One of own admittedly quirky yardsticks for measuring livability of a country is the number of bookstores.

Prague seemed to have a bookstore on just about every street. And most of them are big 2 or 3 story places.

Ditto for Budapest, which I visited last month.

(No, I'm not a professional traveler. Wish I was. I'm currently working in Egypt and get a vacation every 3 months. I like to just pick a city I've never seen and go there.)

39. Just how will an Obama presidency affect them personally?
I mean, when liberals threatened to move out of the country, it was because our lives as Americans(i.e. not just as "liberals") became tangibly worse. Tangible as in dozens of describable, concrete, specific ways. As in unnecessary war, higher prices on everything, the Patriot Act, increased intolerance of people who aren't White Hetero Males With a Billion-a-year Income, As in threats on our lives, as in right-ward drift in the media, etc.

What are conservatives afraid of? That their increased standard of living under Obama will make them eerily and overly accepting of Black people? That they'll be able to afford TOO much goods? That all that goodwill from the rest of the world will make them just slightly less xenophobic? (Which by the way is totally ironic if they're actually gonna move out of the US: like any other country'll have them, right?)

Yes, this is what I was thinking too. I didn't want to leave because i disliked *, I wanted to leave because I felt I was losing my liberties, the same ones that they fought for so many years ago.

Sadly, they won't leave. They'd have to get a passport to do that, those forms are pretty hard to fill out.

45. I've often wondered where conservative could threaten to go
Around here, we often jokingly (or not) threaten to go to Canada when we're unhappy with politix.

But where can the poor Republicans say they're packing their bags and heading to?
Every country on the planet is too liberal for them except their (our) enemies like Iran, N Korea, or Syria, where there's a strong central government, strict death penalty and abortion laws, and a mandatory, albeit "wrong" religion. Socially intolerant countries that value freedom seem so hard to find these days.

For all that, they still view themselves traditionalists who think everyone else in the free world has lost their minds.

Maybe if they were able to take South Africa back to the "good old days", they could fit in there.

47. Talk about IRONY....
They'll run from Obama, but stay put for George Bush's nightmare of anti-democracy horrors????

Bush is the one who ensured that protesters who speak out against the government--can be declared
"enemy combatants", detained indefinitely, tortured and sent to some far-off prison.

They were complacent about that when their boy was in--but now Obama is scary?

Why????????

Obama doesn't want to lie us into a war, or use the Constitution as toilet paper.

What are they afraid of...I'd really like to know...because I didn't' think these people
gave a shit about this country, our Constitution or our democracy. I thought they welcomed
the destruction of those things, because they justified and cheer-leaded the demise of them
at every turn!

So, what could possibly be so scary about Obama, if the destruction of our democracy didn't
even raise their blood pressure?

62. So, they're all going to become illegal immigrants? Poetic justice.
These are people who barely speak English, let alone a second language, let alone Thai. Immigrating to another country is difficult at best. Not so easy if you don't speak the language. In countries where they might let you in, there's a much higher chance that speaking the native language is a necessity for a job.

So, assuming these jerkoffs do manage to turn in enough cans to get airfare to some foreign country -- how will they get a visa. Most places want you to have a job or a promise of one -- or at least a suitcase full of money -- and speak the language.

Otherwise, you become an illegal immigrant who can work under the table at a handful of jobs.

Of course, they're just talking shit -- like Joe the Plumber -- all right-wing fantasy and not a shred of reality.

When Obama wins, I sure as hell hope the Justice Department is stacked with sane and competent individuals who will go after places like FReeperland. In the thread above they are making thinly veiled threats of assassination against Obama.

This trash needs to be swept clean.

93. "I didn't leave America, America left me!"
It would be funnier if Democrats hadn't been saying the same thing for eight years. Now it's more ironic but also reflects poorly on us.

Really, no one should seriously consider leaving the country due to the results of an election unless they expect to be actively persecuted. We need everyone on our side that we can get, to make sure that we can do better in the future. Of course, if the right wingnuts want to leave, I won't shed any tears.

100. Oh bullshit. They aren't going anywhere.
Probably 99% of them can't AFFORD to leave the country. And a good majority of those saying they will have probably never really checked out what it takes to become an expat. They probably don't even have passports.

Better get your passports now, freeps, before you're made into soap! ROFL.

They're so full of shit. What whiny babies. I can say that because I've never once threatened or talked about leaving this country. It's my country, too, it's not anyone's church, it's not anyone's right-wing freakland, it's America and my people have been here since before it was even a country, so fuck that. I'll never give up my state to the freaks, either. (Texas) We've been HERE since before it was a state.

Go cry in your cheap ass beer, freepers.
