Palin supporters fear 'blacks will take over'
Supporters of Sarah Palin attending a rally in St. Clairsville, OH on Sunday were not shy about displaying their racist attitudes and their ignorance about Barack Obama -- along with their very real fears and insecurities -- to al-Jazeera reporter Casey Kauffman.

One white-haired old lady said frankly to Kauffman, "I'm afraid if he wins, the blacks will take over." She then added more shrilly, "He's not a Christian! This is a Christian nation! What is our country going to end up like?"

Another woman stated, "Obama and his wife, I'm concerned that they could be anti-white, that he might hide that." A third suggested, "I don't like the fact that he thinks us white people are trash -- because we're not."

A young man holding a baby told Kauffman, "He seems like a sheep -- or a wolf in sheep's clothing -- to be honest with you. And I believe, Palin, she's filled with the holy spirit."

Holy shit, Archie Bunker is alive and well in Ohio! :wow:

And, if you think the quotes are bad in print...check out the video at the bottom of the article. Unreal...and scary.

11. Um ...
How is it OK to say that?

There are some horribly racist people in this world, but that doesn't mean a blanket statement such as "white people are trash!" is either true or the right thing to say.

This kind of racial hatred is just so unreal to me. I just do not understand it. Why in the world hate ANYONE because he/she has different colored skin???

BTW: I heard something interesting the other day. That when "young people" are asked about Obama, they see a well educated man with good ideas. They seem to be unaware of the color of his skin.

Maybe there is hope out there....:hi:

45. It definitely is a generational thing, to a large extent
The younger generation (God I feel old now even saying that) for the most part doesn't divide by race, and a lot of them aren't homophobic either. These dumb prejudices could be extinct in another generation or two, and obviously having a President with a higher level of melanin in his skin will help that.

I think this has a lot to do with right wing hatred for public education, actually. They think it's their "right" to teach their kids to hate. :puke:

These folks sure don't seem too shy about expressing their dislike for Barack Obama. I doubt they're the type that would tell pollsters they'd vote for Obama because of how it would make them look. They likely would pretty clearly express their support of McCain/Palin.

25. Do you even KNOW what the discredited "Bradley Effect" means?

Hint: This isn't it.

These people are OPENLY saying they will vote for McCain.

The so-called "Bradley Effect" is people saying they will vote for Obama, but end up voting for McCain.

And... it has been completely debunked by several experts.... but here's all the proof you need:

Final TN Senate polls in 2006:
Bob Corker 53%
Harold Ford 45%

Actual vote count:
Bob Corker 51%
Harold Ford 48%

There is no Bradley Effect.

and even if there were, the OP is not an example of it.

Please.... study a little.

62. FEAR is the lens that Palin supporters view life through- and if
some of them point to race as the 'major' fear, I'm not surprised- (saddened but not surprised)

For others it would be his plans not to allow the super wealthy to hoard more- or Obama's youth, his optimisim, his cool, level-headedness. His willingness to apologize, to admit mistakes without needing to 'justify' or minimize them.

Obama's campaign isn't FEAR based. And that is one important reason why I support this ticket with more personal energy/$/emotion than any other election in my 50+ life.

As for the 'in your face' racism, is it any less offensive when it is hidden? An infection cannot be treated unless it is exposed-

FEAR is the fuel behind Mccain and his supporters. It comes in many varieties.
