The smears aren't working

I was at the store today, and the older gentleman working the
cash register was talking with the customer ahead of me about
what was wrong with America and ended the conversation with.
"Whatcha gonna do?"

As I set my groceries on the counter I answered his rhetorical
question with, "I'm voting for Obama."

The guy behind the counter rang up my stuff as he said,
"I'm going to, too. But I don' know if he can fix
it."

"But you are voting for him?" I asked.

"It wasn't an easy decision. He's a Muslim you
know."


I tried to set him straight. I don't know if he believes me or
not, but a WWII vet in a solidly red state plans to vote for
Barrack Obama, the Muslim. We might turn South Dakota blue
yet.

And I was frankly a bit shocked. He tends to vote R every election, but sees that this country needs real leadership for a change. I was quite proud when I first found out.

Smears won't work against an incumbent whom everyone has become familiar with for four years. Their only hope is that Obama will fail to turn the country around... not much of a hope.
