4. Bill Clinton is pretty damn smart
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 08:11 PM by undeterred
but right now I like Obama better. I heard Bill Clinton speak in person for an hour in 2006 - of course he doesn't need a teleprompter - and it was so wonderful to listen to him after all these years of the moron. I got to shake his hand. But Barack Obama is something pretty special and I am looking forward to his presidency.

and Clinton was no one's fool. It would be hard to be sure Obama was clearly number one in that regard.

11. I think in Nixon's case, being batshit nuts counteracted the brilliance. n/t

7. Jimmy Carter was no slouch
He was a nuclear engineer, fer Pete's sake. As President, Carter had to deal with a lot of problems that had festered throughout the '70s, and he showed much insight in dealing with them. For example, we would have been in much better shape if his successor, Ronald Reagan, had not scrapped Carter's energy program. Carter also had the foresight to set aside huge tracts of public lands because he knew what Reagan wanted to do with them. He also was able to get Egypt and Israel to quit fighting each other, an effort for which he eventually received the Nobel Peace Prize. However, he could not overcome two problems that were his undoing-- inflation, which had started to heat up under Nixon, and went essentially unchecked under Ford, and the Iran hostage crisis, which the "liberal" media was only too glad to rub in his face each night on the TV news.
