CA GOP Group Puts Obama, Fried Chicken, Watermelon On Food Stamp
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 01:14 PM by babylonsister
Inland GOP mailing depicts Obama's face on food stamp

07:07 AM PDT on Thursday, October 16, 2008

By MICHELLE DeARMOND
The Press-Enterprise

The latest newsletter by an Inland Republican women's group depicts Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama surrounded by a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken, prompting outrage in political circles.

The October newsletter by the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated says if Obama is elected his image will appear on food stamps -- instead of dollar bills like other presidents. The statement is followed by an illustration of "Obama Bucks" -- a phony $10 bill featuring Obama's face on a donkey's body, labeled "United States Food Stamps."

The GOP newsletter, which was sent to about 200 members and associates of the group by e-mail and regular mail last week, is drawing harsh criticism from members of the political group, elected leaders, party officials and others as racist.

The group's president, Diane Fedele, said she plans to send an apology letter to her members and to apologize at the club's meeting next week. She said she simply wanted to deride a comment Obama made over the summer about how as an African-American he "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."

spiritual leader of a cult ordered all his people to drink actual kool-aid, and they all died because it was poisoned. That is the reference, NOT the racist one you refer to. I would gladly send you to websites about the event if you are interested. Again, this is not meant to be offensive. Best wishes.

It's a "food stamp". It has pictures of other racilly stereotypical food with Obama's picture.

Teh koolaid refernce, in context, is racial.

...African Americans can only like "cheap" foods.

I don't know, I LOVE all of these foods (especially Popeye's! I wish I lived near one!), and there's a pitcher of Koolaid in the fridge right now.

Funny how she didn't "randomly" come up with Brie, caviar, roast pheasant, and a nice German Reilsing.

37. I love all those foods too,
but what made me so furious about this is because I grew up in the South and heard all the jokes about them. When I was a little kid, before I knew any better, I laughed at those jokes. When I got older I came to understand why they are so wrong. It pisses me off that racist assholes continue to perpetuate these jokes to their children. I don't want my son to grow up hearing them.

"The newsletter is not the first such episode Barajas has had to respond to this week. The Sacramento Bee on Wednesday posted an image it said was captured from the Sacramento County GOP Web site that showed Obama in a turban next to Osama bin Laden.

It said: "The difference between Osama and Obama is just a little B.S." The site also encouraged members to "Waterboard Barack Obama," a reference to a torture technique. The Sacramento County party took down the material Tuesday after being criticized. "

Sheila Raines, an African-American member of the club, was the first person to complain to Fedele about the newsletter. Raines, of San Bernardino, said she has worked hard to try to convince other minorities to join the Republican Party and now she feels betrayed.

"This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party," she said. "I'm really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes."

This is what happens when the gloves come off. This is what happens when loss of power is imminent. True colors are showing.

How could you dare stand up and support a party that OKs mailers such as these. I don't care if it was denounced later from higher-ups. This is the mindset of the people you are standing up for.

And the damn Uncle Tom ass James T. Harris is up "begging" John McCain to please these folks. Its disgusting.

Look, I know there are legitimate black conservatives that beleive in small government and low taxes. This STILL isn't the party for them.

The Republican Party of today is just too toxic for nonwhites - and John McCain has bought into the tactics against his black opponent to further his quest for the Oval Office. It has to create real cognitive dissonance in minorities who want to join the GOP on principle.

"It was strictly an attempt to point out the outrageousness of his statement. I really don't want to go into it any further," Fedele said in a telephone interview Tuesday. "I absolutely apologize to anyone who was offended. That clearly wasn't my attempt."

First this idiot blames Obama for her bad behavior, then she plays the old chestnut, "I apoligize if you were offended", not "I apologize for being offensive."

58. Nope. No racism in the GOP. Nothing to see here.. move along.
Racism and sexism is very alive today, and it breeds in the cliquish clubs of the republican ladies.

61. When do the republicans put on their hoods and burn crosses?
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 01:56 PM by workinclasszero
They already have lynch mobs at every Palin / McKKKain rally. This kind of racial hate will bury the republicans for good.

73. But sometimes they just "accidentally" put their best white sheets over their heads...
... and they simply "believe in the fire of the Lord!".

Nothing racist meant by it. REALLY!

69. That woman better do a whole lot more than just apologize.
She'd better step down. And if she has any decency she'll go to her local community college and take a few African American Studies classes. For starters.

74. Is there an island these people can move to?
It's just too much. these people have so humiliated themselves, I am speechless. Their childish excuses just add to the shame. I will be so glad when these 3 year olds are not in charge anymore. Good gracious -- is this how your parents raised you? Is this how you conduct yourself professionally? Do you really believe that God condones your attitude that you are superior to another human being based on your skin color? Oh, shame. Shame shame shame. The ignorance and lack of humility and compassion are simply astounding.

One has to wonder-- are these people human beings? How do you function without an ounce of decency in you? Where were you raised?

Even worse, they have NO sense of shame or honor. it runs in the GOP. No apology from Sarah Palin for her ethics violations. No apology from McCain for the nature of his rallies and the lies he spreads via his running mate (who is in NO position to be throwing stones- her husband would be refused security clearance due to his ties with violent secessionist group, allied with Middle Eastern Terrorists-- and she has the nerve, the gall, the unmitigated audacity to throw stones? Go read your bible, Sarah. You missed a lot of sections).

these people are so shameful. They claim to be different from Bush? How? If anything, they begin to make Bush look decent in comparison. And that takes a lot of work. Indeed, that may be the hardest work they've ever done in their lives. SHAME.

84. it's not just the food...
Notice that she calls what's clearly meant to be a food stamp Obama "Bucks", which is a racist term for a black man. That, to me, is far worse than the sterotyped food items she placed within the "buck".

88. Why does this kind of story never get the coverage something like "Joe the Plumber" gets?
It's just crazy to me to see how our media will fall all over themselves sometimes for a blatant Republican talking point, but then, when Dems show that things are not as they seem in Republicanland, the media won't even cover it.

Think of all those videos we've seen of Republicans shouting that Obama is a terrorist, holding toy monkeys and calling them "Little Hussein", etc... why is none of that being covered on the nightly news?

right times. The more I learn about the Republican Party, the more I see it's the enemy of the people.
